« on: December 17, 2008, 08:30:44 am »
been doing this one lady since i started and her friend. anyway always messed me about as in can you come after 1pm etc because she has to let me through her friends and always conversation about windows etc and takes twice as long. anyway missed her out since october thinking she would just get someone else. seen her yesterdted me as her long lost friend and i agreed o do her again starting next year. i just cannot bring myself to tell her no. even tried to do a quick job but that did not deter her.no good at dropping bad customers.the other one i dropped because i can only do her on a saturday morning because of her dogs rang me up and i have agreed to take her back on. am i just soft.

If her dogs can use a telephone, why dont she get them to clean the windows ::)

Otherwise tell her that in the new year your prices are going up and increase hers to the level where you cannot say no too. ;)

Yes I would agree with that!
Just say we have had a good hard look at our business and come up with a new pricing structure!
Your new price (If you should decide to except it) will be £?.??
price them out, and don't worry!
You never know she might say yes and then it might not seem so bad! ;)

Yep I saw them dogs using an I- phone, and on a a Saturday, very clever.
I would put the price up, or just mention that you can only do the fronts to save time & cut your losses.
(just take a tiny drop in wages) or just buy her a man eatin plant.

Ask yourself the Alan Sugar question.

What would Alan Sugar do in this situation? would he be so soft or would he be ruthless?

He'd be ruthless.

But thats not business, thats entertainment.

And where do you think he got all his money from? I meant what would he do in real life?

Dunno, dont know the bloke.

However he got all his money doesnt mean he sacks people with a ruthlessness. Sacking them in a kindly manner still achieves the same result as sacking them ruthlessly.

True - I remember one of the earlier "Apprentice" shows - the one where the tall, young black guy won over a more assertive opponent at the end. AS said the substance of "it's all very well being assertive and go-getting but you need to deal with high level buyers and customers who need to be treated with courtesy".

It's a game of three halves!

I'm sure there must be a song somewhere in this thread.  Reminds me of "50 ways to leave your lover..................." .

very good.
on the ruthless question it used to be said that all his businesses involved a talented partner, and a venture begun equally, after achieving success, ended with a venables type shafting for the relevant partner.
