I popped over to see a windowcleaner who was selling all his wfp gear - the ro and tank were pretty impressive but the carbon pole i was after was nearly as thick as a drainpipe.
 Anyway we got chatting and it turns out he used to have a big lucrative round years ago but sold up to travel Europe amongst other things. On his return he decided to start up again wfp. He had 25,000 leaflets printed in glossy four colour A5 size and distributed them to every business,nursing home and hotel in the area including one very expensive city. He said "guess how many jobs i got from that leaflet drop?"

I posted 200 flyers to some businesses and I got 5, with all types of advertisng there are no gurantees.

I would never drop fliers to businesses they wouldnt even get looked at its just more junk mail too them, I walk in and hand business cards to the person on the desk, done 60 Hotels and got 3 of them.

Most of the time calls won`t follow straight away,in some cases it can be months and you might have even forgotton that you dropped in that particular area.I must admit i think going in and seeing the person concerned works better but this isn`t possible all the time if your looking to get work on the quick.

He was misleading you, so you don’t leaflet.   

the general statistics of success on leafleting is 5%
its sometimes just luck of the draw on hitting the right area...
the best success rate i have had is 16% and that was on a hundred leaflets in one village.
i find it hard to believe that out of 25000 he only got one call unless the leaflets were really useless!

what i hsve noticed with leafleting is that the calls can come in months after you post them...i have done quite a lot of leafleting lately and as part of my "operation" credit crunch , i will keep on leafleting, (although i havnt been losing any to the credit crunch) so i expect an influx of calls in the spring.....   another thing i am trying is laminating them as suggested by groundhog

He wants £2000 for the lot, sounds expensive but he paid nearly £5000 for it all. The Ro has a uv filter and a massive membrane. All made by Streamline which might be Varitech? Probably take £1500 to get rid of it all. Doesn't really want to split it down. Had the carbon pole been a newer xtell i would have probably bought it.
The money he made previously also paid for his uni- course and so he's off to spain to teach English.

Have to say the town this guy lives in used to have a massive print works nearby which closed after Robert Maxwell did his best to sink it before. Couple of years ago another huge print firm went under too, so lots of workers turned their hands to windowcleaning in desperation. Clarkes also shut a large shoe factory in the town too.
Some of the braggers on here may just be lucky to live in affluent areas full of cash rich retired people, but for others it's a different story.

Your right when you say some are lucky and some are not that`s life,that`s why people shouldn`t be so quick to jump to conclusions when various posts go up about per hour per day etc.Every situation is different and as you say this job is no different.

Very true i've read before on here how bad parts of Scotland can be. Maybe London and the home counties are the cash rich areas i don't know.

Leafletting businesses at the present time is probably not a good idea but our house to house leaflets are still pulling in new customers.
Actually, its a bit weird because we started leafleting again after losing a few customers to the credit crunch not really expecting to get a lot of response. However, the response has probably been the best we have ever had in terms of customers gained to number of leaflets delivered.

I have set up my round on leafleting alone which has led to mouth to mouth recomodations but to drop 25k and get only 1 job sounds very sus to say the least..me thinks he is putting you off the 'trail'.

But have to admit ....leaflets to business's do not seem to have got me much at all...I think the trick with leaflets is to repeat, repeat and repeat again...some of the area's I look for work in...have been leafleted about 6 or 7 times now...not to mention the streets that I work in get leafleted often.

As for statistics...I have found 0.5% success i.e customers gained is a good response from leaflets...I wish I had 5% but as someone else said different area's will yield different results.

He doesn't need to put me off the trail, he's leaving the country and is outside my area. He seemed a genuine guy. Part of his problem was he sold his round of 680 customers with the proviso of not canvassing any of his previous customers.

The best way to do leaflets in my opinion is to drop leaflets one week then follow it up by knocking their doors. Customer prefers to see the face thats going to be cleaning their windows. After all you could be any old Tom Dick or Harry casing their place up etc, They'll either like your face and employ you or make an excuse and not employ you.
