just had a call from a customer claiming that wfp has put deep scratches in his glass.
this is a job that i have only done once....it was pretty a dirty one at that.
 i am always careful about not putting the brush face down or against walls and clean them at the end of each day. going to have a look tomorrow anyway.
has this every happened to any of you?

Ive noticed minor scratching after one clean, however i dont know if they were there before the clean, so i said nothing. If they werent, then their glass is extremely soft! there is a known issue with poor manufactured glass that ive read when looking into construction cleans..

I have taken on a window clean for a large property that ditched their old WC cos they scratched their glass using wfp.

Ive taken it on, doing some by wfp cos they have a large decking area at the rear, but i do the rest trad, and they are happy with that.

Grit scratches glass but only under pressure.

I wouldn't have thought though, that even with a little grit in the bristles you would have applied enough pressure to scratch glass.

I have found though that when the stock part of the brush comes in contact with the brickwork at the side of a window it will leave grit embedded in it. If this comes in contact with the glass whilst you're cleaning it, it will probably cause scratching.

Sometimes the scratch is already there so when you first clean it you remove the dirt which is hiding the scratch, and the customer thinks your pole has cause it.

yes this is what i think.
the windows had not been cleaned for over a year and any in perfections on the glass would stand out.
any way the ball will be in there court to do what ever they feel necessary i dont think anything i say tomorrow would make a difference.

You would need to use the brush dry w/ alot of grit in it to do any scratching. The scratches must have been there before. Probably because of fabricating debris being dislodged on the initial builders clean.

Have a look at which way the scratches run. If you clean with a side to side action and the scratches run any other way or visa-versa it could not be you. Sell it to them like that and show them your brush so they know that it's soft. Be polite but don't look guilty.

Had exactly same happen to me (was employee who cleaned it though) windows were brand new but no way were scratches caused by a WFP brush. My suspicions were raised when he said 'well it will be covered by your insurance won't it' I recommended he contact the company that fitted them as it was probably done on instalation and he did not notice until he went round for a close inspection of his first window clean. Still cleaning them today, the company who fit them put him a new unit in.

If the scratches are not too deep, try treating them with "toothpaste" apparantly it does remove scrathes from glass and you have nothing to lose.

could have been caused by a blade the way the scratches run.
i think we just uncovered them after a good clean. as i said the windows had not been cleaned for over a year.
      i cleaned the window in front of him and he admitted it could not have been us.
and he still wants us to clean them.......hope this is the end of the matter.

Sounds settled then - I would jot down the day and time of this conversation/his admission in a diary or on a worksheet just in case something comes back later.
