This could of back fired as ive just recieved a email from a very respectful website (everyone on here will know who they are) asking me to pass message onto matt, ive deleted certain parts as dont want to mention who they are without permission.

Hi,

Just been reading the thread about LWC being banned on Cleanitup. (I got banned for linking to my site when I started too. ???? ?????? has some strange issues I think.

Anyway, tell LWC to let me know when his site is ready and I’ll put a free link on our website.

Kind Regards

Haven't you worked it out yet, mike started CIU to drum up business for express cleaning supplies and that hasn't happened. What has happened is that individuals have come on here and built their business up with some free advertising and now Mike has had enough. I can kind of understand it as if you built a website/forum and it advertised rivals more than yourself then you would be pretty miffed that this was the case. LWC I expect was a particular threat because he was going into supplies ie in direct competition to express. I do think thats why he was banned from posting although I do think it was heavy handed to ban him without warning (if thats the case). I also wonder if this "new" policy was brought about by people like lwc being in the same market as Express. Clearly some people are going to fall foul of this new policy eg window washers. I assume he will have to pay because he advertises a business yet he could hardly be called competition to Express. I honestly believe that what has gone on is that Mike is fed up of rivals advertising here and that he has realised that by charging £150pm he will be able to (a) Be able to stop direct competition from advertising here unless they pay which will mean he makes £1800 from every competitor and (B) he has realised that he can make the same from other companies that are actually NOT in direct competition with them. However what hasn't been considered is that if the suppliers are out off by this then they wont post, and therefore the membership lose a resource and the forum becomes poorer and could end up losing members as that is part of the attraction of CIU - the diverse membership.
The site sponsor is my local supplier. Do I use them? Rarely. Why? Because they don't stock the range of others. They don't sell Xtels, Sl2/SLX, etc etc. If I looked at their range I would think a powerpole was cutting edge (no offence Glyn & omnipole) and here lies the problem (from a window cleaning point of view). You cant get the products you want off em, Express dont have the range of up to date products that people want to buy, If they stocked xtels for example and they were well priced then maybe that would drum up more business. As for CIU I think it has failed in expectations from the sponsor in that it would promote their business but what is has achieved is it has become the largest cleaning forum there is and as great as that is it isn't quite how the founders vision saw it going.
I have a mutual understanding with ciu I will not post what as it is private, others that just spam and I am not talking about lwc get banned and thats good, I have no idea why Matt got banned as I have not be online much and after today I will be off again as have a lot plate at the mo non work related

Hi Ian, Firstly I hope everything is ok and if there is anything that I can help with just email me and I will do my best to help.
Now about the above post -My point was and why I mentioned you was because of the new charge of £150 per month charge to put your link up. I assumed that that this was a blanket thing although really aimed at Expresses direct competition. Therefore the way I see it is you will have to pay £1800 per year to put your link in yet Express have no interest in web design. Now I am guessing but I don't think you'll pay that amount for the year so in particular newbies will potentially miss out on the service you offer. I understand the reason why the Admin want to try and eliminate advertising rivals (as I said last night would you take out a yellows pages advert for another window cleaning company?) but I don't think the charging idea has been totally thought through. Where a business is in no competition with express then really they have got the poor end of the deal and the other thing that has been missed is that these people may be put off coming on and posting - therefore the forum becomes a poorer place as  result. As I also said last night I think that when CIU was created they aimed for one thing and what happened was something completely different.
Anyway just thought I would explain and as I said Ian if there is anything I can help you with get in touch ;) Pete

the thing is, it should be 1 rule for every1

not just 1 rule for people like LWC and 1 for window washers etc etc

shame really

But express cleaning don't sell websites!!!

:)

Lets be fair though, Ian NEVER takes advantage of the forum to advertise his business,.. and he posts plenty of helpful info,.... so everyone should be happy he's here.

That's not true.  ;D
But as you say nat he is not competition.

Anyway, i have to say that i hardly ever click on the banner to see what express have to sell.
But i do look in the buy and sell section. I think express are missing a trick by not advertising the odd bits and pieces in there. It is another outlet for people to see what they have.

It is a tricky 1 though. I can understand why everyone should be treated the same, but everyone isn't the same. If it was applied to everyone, this forum would be a poorer place because of it.

So are we going to have a case where we cant link to specific products the you recommend to do a job, unless they are from Express Cleaning Supplies?

I dont care about suppliers being able to use the avatar or sig to promote themselves, but i would want people to recommend to me products at other web sites that may be of interest to me.

It's really just manufacturers and or suppliers posting blatant direct links.

If other members are discussing someones products or services then thats fine

What about matts missing diy link. Or was that matt playing silly buggers?  :)
Surely he can't be considered to be either?
In fact, i reckon that diy link should be a sticky somewhere on the forum. Cos when i was looking into wfp, i never had much of a clue what was what and reading more just made me more confused.
Until i looked at his site and realised it wasn't rocket science and even i could use 1 without having to pay someone else to put it all together or maintain it.
