I don't get this! I posted a reply to this thread last week,  slightly risque, but jokey , , and it was deleted with a warning that the thread would be blocked!! Now the last few posts, are allowed, even though they are racier than my post, can the moderator please explain?

Philip Hanson seems to be the only moderator around here and unlike God, he's not omnipotent (some may disagree with that point).

He's a canny lad though, has the guts to disagree openly with opinions and does some good posts himself.  He's good for our industry and more importantly, this forum; so lets give him a bit of lee-way.  He's beaten me up enough times, and Duke often feels the 'wrath of Philip'.  So it's not like we're best friends in a select 'clique'.

And at the end of the day, Philip has to eat, sleep and poo like the rest of us, so some stuff will slip through, and others won't!

It's the luck of the draw!

Come back tomorrow and these posts might have disapeared!

Hey Smart Window cleaning pros;

I personally do not see any  moral question for any of the previous posts.   ;D

I am not posting a nude photo; just considering in a fun way making a tasteful but FUN calender page to toss out there for a beginning. 8)

I think it may be a fun idea; including all kinds of window cleaning people ; men and women.

And the window cleaning is the center of this idea; with all proceeds going to  a charity.

So I would be interested to know the reason for any of the previous posts being deleted; as they are totally innocent and moral.

I think from what little exposure I have had with the forums, I find the moderators doing a fantastic job. I fully respect their judgment.

All of this idea is in fun and innocence; nothing more. Relax; it is OK.
A few laughs amidst all the wintry cold is good for the soul.

And the most intelligent people I know are window cleaners. :o

Maybe a page of female window cleaners dressed in long johns and coats and scarfs would be suitable/ but how boring?

Hugs,

Texas :-* :-* :-*

Moderators don't explain, they moderate.  Think of it like when your parents said "because I said so".

No, seriously though, its important that we keep the discussion professional, and as windows_chepstow has rightly pointed out, mods cant be everywhere at once.  There are three mods on this board, and there will be times when things get missed.

If you find something offensive that you think we've missed, you'll notice there's a little "report to moderator" button at the bottom of every post.  Click on that and an email will be sent to us with space for a comment by you.  Some have already used this, and thanks for that.

I know you might sometimes think that I'm being too strict about things, but if the discussion gets out-of-hand then it discourages people from commenting, especially newcommers.  When I first discovered this forum, I was genuinely surprised at the professional attitude and conversation of the members.  Had I seen risque or offensive comments, I wouldn't have bothered coming back and I'm sure that's the same for others.

Actaully, I have had PM's from people saying that they feel the forum has gone downhill and they dont want to be a part of it anymore.  I'm sure you'd agree with me that's a real shame, and will eventually result in a poorer forum for all of us.

All of your comments are welcome,  and we can all benefit from other people's experience.

I know you might sometimes think its amusing, but please try not to be tempted to make comments that are risque or have a double meaning.  Come on, we don't need that here, and it lowers the tone.  It also causes otherwise good threads to get locked, and that's a bit selfish.

Help me out by not pushing the boundries, I dont like having to delete things.  I think some things lately have been posted by people who want to "see what they can get away with".  Yawn.  Please stop it.  This isn't school, and thats rather selfish.

We have a good group here, and some very interesting discussions.  Lets not spoil it with risque comments and whingeing about the moderation.  There's enough window cleaning stuff to talk about without that!

lol...I don't mind really....I'd never post anything I felt was offensive...occaisionaly just a bit of light humour or chit chat.....but never intentionally to offend. In fact there have been a few subjects that I really couldn't comment on...so I don't....least said and all that...

Same here, I have to restrain myself with the humour, and I try to ask myself what I would think if my dad was over my shoulder reading the words I was typing out, or my daughter for that matter.
I know we may unintentionally drift a little close to the edge at times, and with a post about a possible calander, with our own rather gorgeous Texas Girl featuring, its difficult (I could have said hard...but I didn't....well, ok, I just did :-[) to avoid a little (hopefully) light hearted sexual humour, hopefully we haven't exceeded the bounds of decency?
With Water Fed Poles its almost impossible to avoid double ententres, how I keep a straight face when discussing it with customers I don't know ;D

At the moment this seems to be the most popular forum, judging from the level of postings and replies being made every day, so the balance must be pretty good :D

Thanks for replying to my earlier query. I do see your point entirely, and would like to extend my thanks for the sterling work that you and the other moderators put in to keep this forum running.

Anyway, back to the calender.

What we need is idea's. Texas Girl has offered her services and has some good ideas (which I'm 100% in favour of) so how about some more thoughts on the calender subject?

Also, what we need is somewhere to post pictures and then maybe vote on them?

Hey dudes! ;D

I have decided that I will experiment over the next 2 weeks with our first window cleaner calender page.

We can work out details; where to post pics( I plan to take lots of pics of all kinds); and what would be the best choice; etc.

Do I take a ton of pics and let you all decide?  :o

We could all take pics; I think the only requirement be that the pics be of WINDOW CLEANERS ONLY! :)

We are hot! If not; get busy! Get that bod sleek and muscular!  Get off the couch!

All suggestions helpful.

Sounds good to me.  You could start a new thread with a 'poll', and we could vote.  You know, Pic 1, Pic 2, etc.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it!  I may even join in the fun, if Philip lets me; and post one of myself!

Tosh!

I'm with you on this. Voting is a good idea.

Next week end I'll take a pic of our our crew or something and hopefully somwhere to post it will magically appear. There's always someone who has good ideas or the know how. I hope.

I don't think my pics will be er.....  How should I put it? ..... macho maybe?

I'll try and be creative ..... some hope though.

In order to post pictures here, they have to be "hosted".  This means you have to upload them to the internet somewhere.  You then simply include the image's internet location and wrap it in IMG tags.

You can upload and host them on your own webspace (if you have a website) or there are a few sites around that exist solely for the purpose of hosting images for you, a good one is Image Shack:

i.us

Once you've uploaded your photo (which will take a very long time if you don't have broadband) it will generate the ready-made "forum" code for you, complete with the image tags.

Alternatively, and this is probably a better idea, you can create a public photo album and link to it from the forum.  There are a few good photo album sites, my favourite is photobox.

www.photobox.co.uk

A word of warning though: most images actually belong to someone, so if you do host and post any, make sure you have the owner's permission (if you are are the owner, of course, there'll be no problem!)
