heres the story

I cleaned the windows of a regular customer 3 weeks ago, they had just had new glass put in these windows and still had stickers on when we cleaned (and as told by our builders & building inspector when we had our extension done) that they should not be removed until inspectors have signed off as they liked to see that the glass had been installed the correct way round, so we did not remove the stickers but cleaned the glass as usual and a note was left explaining this and if removal was required then to call and we would arrange for the removal.

this customer called the day after to say yes builders had finished and could we remove the stickers as they had tried and they got the sticker off but it left the gum behind and couldn't remove that.

so I said no problem I would fit it back onto the schedule and remove them ( there was 10 or so of them) I thought that since they paid £21 for there W/clean that £20 was a fair price for the removal

now we did the removal today and we got there took ladders off the van took 1 of them round the back to 1st window and since they were standing on decking I said to my employee you just stand on the bottom while I do this one & behold they came off so easy that it was unbelievable.  We went to the next window and I said there is no point you getting a ladder I might as well do these myself.  These stickers were actually peelable, I only put a bit of liquid on the window just to stop the blade from scratching the glass.

After we had removed all of the stickers I sent my employee off to clean them again just to remove the detergent while I put the ladders back on the van.  We were on this job no more than 10 mins so I changed the price to £10.

Now just sat here in the office and the phone rings.  This is Mrs X she is disgusted that I have charged her for the removal and she is not paying, she is willing to pay for the last window clean that is still owed but no more.

How much do you guys charge for sticker removal, have I charged too much and was I taking the Pee?

I am probably not going to chase this £10 but am interested to see how you guys see it.

On my terms, only "natural" substances i will remove on a normal clean like bird muck, tree sap etc, otherwise i will charge a half hourly rate (depending on how long it takes) for anything that needs to be removed that been put on them by "someone" else, like paint, stickers, waterproofing etc.

Its an additional service in my eyes.

those non-natural substances should be removed by whoever put them on there in the first place.

did you give her a price beforehand?, and make sure, she was aware it was a chargeable service?

I don't charge more for sticker removal if I'm doing it as part and parcel of the w/c job.

But in your case you actually had to return to do it with petrol money and the hassle of a tiny job.  A miserable tenner?  I think the woman is being ridiculous not to pay it.

Couple of weeks back I had the man in to service my boiler...£40 just to get into his van and come round!

i hate this other pros leaving us to do the dirty work whether its paint ,putty,stickers or silicone customers expect us just to take it off for the same price as a normal clean its a joke

iv removed them for note £0 but not go back and remove for note thats pee all the way id have left them till next time

had I left then till next time I still would have had to have my guy with me as this is still a ladder job where I am normally wfp.  I would still have been extra work which I would expect to get paid for.

should have made sure the customer was aware of the extra costs for the extra work before you removed them.

I had a builder ask me if I would 'just' take some sticky marks off every window on a house I don't even clean...I replied NO CHANCE that's your job

Very spookey!  Anyway back to topic...If this were better times I'd bet you'd be itching to sack her. But I guess you're right...just swallow it.  Perhaps just keep her small-mindedness at the back of your mind when at a future date she becomes surplus to requirements.
