Great end to the week...not!
« on: November 07, 2008, 03:33:28 pm »

A week or so ago i get a call from a a new custy who's been given my name by somebody.

Can I clean his windows...yes where do you live...he tells me and I say yes I know those flats, £15 on a bi-monthly basis and I'll leave an SAE.

Off I go and clean them this Tuesday just gone.

The flats were built around 1960 and I don't think the windows have been cleaned since they went in...minging isn't the word.

2 maisonette flat 8 windows in total...20 mins?....nah 1hr it took me...they were that dirty. But I went away knowing I'd done a good job and that next time it'd be 20 mins max.

OK that's the background.

Get's a call lunchtime today from the custy.  Oh hello Simon I've sent the cheque but I must say I don't think you've done a good job :o :o :o

Sorry about that I'll go back and redo them.

Bung me ladders up and can't see anything wrong...they're about as perfect as a wfp result ::)

As I'm climbing down the front door opens an an irate middleaged Hyacynth Bucket lookalike demands who the hell I am and what the hell did I think I was doing?

Yep you've guessed it... I'd done the wrong bleeding flat.

Miserable old bag didn't even offer me a brew for the free clean >:(

Aside from that had a good week ;D

You got to admit though, must be a great customer if he was willing to send a cheque even though you hadn't actually touched his windows.
Bet you'll double check your addresses from now on though.
Had a mate (steve) who did a similar thing with adriveway, turned up to do it - no one home so he cracked on regardless, 2 hours later, driveway gleaming and hes packing his stuff away when the owner turns up. looks a bit confused and asks why hes cleaned the driveway, steve says owner has booked him today, owner thens says he hasn't and that hes not paying. so steve calls the number hes been given and speaks to custy who booked him, turns out there were two streets with the same name but in different area. Doh.

I must admit it isn't the 1st time I've done this. What makes it irritating is that if Hyacynth had been at home on Tuesday when I did them she'd have come out and said: No Mr Window Cleaner it's next door you want.

Oh well!

I did a classic when I was on ladders helping a mate who was looking after somebody else's round.

Knock on door (wrong house) and no-one in. Climb over gate to find a male naturist clipping his roses in the buff!
It's a game of three halves!

Not long after I first started window cleaning I was up a ladder - it was a windy day - and a woman shouted up and asked for a quote.  I took her details down while I was at the top of the ladder; I can only think I didn't hear her properly.

Anyway I went round to the place I thought it was, the lady wasn't in, so later that day I phoned her and said my price.  She was happy with it and she sounded like a really nice customer.

So, the following month I cleaned the bungalow, no problems, left a note and wasn't paid.    I did this THREE TIMES before the bungalow owner managed to get his lazy-ass round to phoning  and I recieved a phone call asking, 'why do you keep cleaning our windows?' and gave some vague excuse about being out of the country...?.

He sounded like an elderly gentleman, so I didn't give him a hard time, but I really wanted to throttle him; why didn't he phone me after the first clean?

I've done other stuff too; but never THREE TIMES; like that instance.  I doubt there's a window cleaner here who hasn't cleaned the wrong property, but I reckon I hold the record for doing the wrong property THREE-FLIPPING-TIMES.
