Today I finally had enough from a lady that has been with me for 5 months.
I had provided her a cell phone with the understanding that she would keep it business only.
$266.00 American dollars! I have fired her once before but I guess I can be manipulated at times because now she owes me $400.00 Amer. $.
And then she calls me names on the phone. Blames the world for her circumstances. She just does not get it!
I will end up loosing money but I will get back all my tools, shirts, paperwork, etc.
I have been in business long enough to know when enough is enough.
No shouting; no names; just good bye and good luck, and if you try to take any of my jobs I will see you in court.
Always it is not a pleasant thing to fire someone. For some reason the boss is always the bad guy
So I always make it clear that I owe them nothing.
Before hiring anyone, they sign a contract saying they will not compete against me for one year( my accounts only).
I alway's beleive that I would rather take a small loss and let them go on their way instead of sueing in small claims court for money they may owe me.
Cindy has kept all the cash collections for the past 3 weeks; saying we would work it out the next week, etc.
In over 20 years I have not had anyone just "keep" my money! That in addition to collecting a check for payment on the accounts they have done! Excuse Me: Stealing?
I don't want to sound like a chump but I am careful in that area because people can do strange things when they are in dire straits. I never leave them worse off than me. That way they know who was in the wrong and they will lie if they say otherwise.
All of her problems were caused by her bad choices. I will outline completely what I have learned about hiring people, contracting, etc one of these days soon.
As business owners there is a lot to know about protecting yourself and contracting legally to helpers. I have learned most of what I know through the school of hard knocks.
Remember; You are just the no good son of a gun that hired them. You are suppossed to make their lives straight even tho they have not been able to do so for 20 years.
And get this thought: "Oh well, Debbie is doing good; she doesn't need the money; I will just keep some".
I tell you gents; there is so much self protecting you need to do in order to make it all work.
Sometimes the good ole days of doing all myself and being a one person company are missed.
Yet, I was getting serious tennis elbow in both arms; even with cort. shots . Had to do something.
I love my job but it just takes practice and faith in ones self and the determination to do things right. I have learned as I go.
Taking emotions out of business is essential. Cindy was a pro manipulator.
I talked to her about taking my money that she was supposed to turn in and she cried; said she would never do it again, and then the next two weeks did the same!
I can see the signs pretty much now if someone is not going to work out. I have developed a lot of strategies to protect myself and my clients.
Well, my last beer is gone: Night night time
