320ppm IN 38ppm OUT
«
on:

Just fitted my merlin today (second hand). The reading before going in to the di vessel was 140ppm (from mains of 320ppm) but I let it run for about 10 mins and now its 38ppm. Is this good enough?
I ask because I dont want to start using my resin until i know thats the best (ish) I can get for a hard water like mine.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Seems high to me - my ro-man is 400 in and 10 out before the DI.
My DI (10") vessel starts at 000 and I run it until it reaches about 008 and then change the resin. This vessel goes thru a second one which I change at 003.
When my membranes get tired they creep up to about 20 and then I change them. Once a year for me.

my merlin is the same mate. dead on 38ppm before di, and 410ish ppm before ro. I asked the same question a while ago and it seems to be the norm with merlins.

Thanks for the help everyone
Did you guys have a problem when it came to polishing it then. As in, you are going through a lot more resin?
Also how do you know when the membranes need replacing. Is it just a gradual creep up of your ppm before the di vessel.....

Is it even possible to get it to 000ppm in our case (hard water and merlins)?

hi brownie
should have gone for a ro man with your tds mate, mine is around 320-350 in , 004 out , looked at the merlin but was advised not to go with it, produces water quick , but apalling waste to product, and does not bring tds down enough- costing a lot more in resin changes. after going through di, mine comes out at 000, and resin lasts ages.

What model did you get, and how much was it?
Got work but not in a hurry, so could still sell it and change systems if its worth it...

Sounds about right, I've always been told that Merlins are great for producing water quickly, but are not as effective in removing impurities, hence the higher TDS.

I was getting 426 in & 39 out from my merlin setup so I sold it on ebay! I bought ro-man kit and the last time I checked I was 423 in & 9 out.
