anybody got a cradle cert
« on: October 27, 2008, 05:17:38 pm »
hi guys,

been asked to quote for the biggest job i've ever been asked to quote. quote easy to work it as its literally just a box of glass. however, they have an internal and external cradle system that will be up and running soon. is there anybody on here with a license for both if so would you be possibly free 1st / 2nd week in december and how much do you charge per day.

cheers

shaun

with cradles your covered ?
If not i would before you put your quote in because a couple of years ago we
jacked a job in because of the increase in insurance cost to what we were actaully making on the job, hope this helps jon

£845 sounds a bit expensive. each cradle is different some are rope operated some electric and others use turfers and all these can differ substantially, usually these cradles come under a maintenance package and are checked out twice yearly if you ask the buiilding owners who maintains the cradle and then get in touch with them i am sure they will offer the training needed and may be at a reduced rate due to you working on equipment they service.

they probably will and if they dont im sure they will know a firm that does, you will have to buy some harnesses for working from cradle and it is worthwhile to also have a couple of abseilling ropes for emergency , most electric cradles have a freefall mechanism to lower cradle if electric cuts out or they break but these can be a pig sometimes and if you need to get down in a hurry abseiling is quickest.

tradman let us know how you get on with that builders clean using scrapers on a pole,i tried it today on a 40ft pole to remove egg on students kitchen i couldnt get any pressure on scraper and found it a complete waste of time, i ended up soaking it with tfr then rinsing 5 mins later it then came of easy.
it might be a sugestion to try it on a section of glass before commiting to taking the job on this way both you and the builder will know what results to expect and it will give you some idea in to how long the job will take.

yeah will do. but hopefully access equipment will be allowed, the firm i subby to is having a major kick ass meeting regarding this absurd ruling. but half of me wants to try it now. they need to finally make up there minds, just in case as i'll need to order a pole from alex. did you manage to do it or was it a waste of time. was it case of not enough angle (far enough out due to access) or do you think a saggy pole would have helped in the scraping then using a super lite for wag tailing?

it was a waste of time, the pole i used was a sl2 so very rigid maybe the angle was wrong but i tried it at a couple of different angles what happened was the scraper was just riding over the egg so i dont think there was enough pressure at scraper blade.

cheers trevor, that helps a lot, going to pass on your experiences to the firm, good ammo. if i still have to struggle maybe the wire wool in an unger clamp will do, just hoping (probably in vain) that these windows have actually had label residue removed already (i know, i know, i doubt it too, but dreams do come true for some).
