first time out with backpack
« on: October 07, 2008, 01:34:20 pm »
Hey guys, had first day out with backpack yesterday, bit nervous as to what custies would think :-\
I did 11 houses before it rained!
it was a pleasure not to get ladders out and i wasnt half as knackered as usual, most of my round are big houses
loads of interest in the wfp system, not one complaint because i was honest with them regarding spotting etc.
This is the gist of what i told them"can you remember when i first cleaned your windows and  that after a few cleans you would see the most benefits, well its the same thing with this new system only better because this will flush all the trapped dirt away"
i thought i would get most disapprovement on the private estates but i was wrong, most said they had friends whos w/c used the pole!
Going to give it a fair chance though and only use it for upstairs, the only reason being i have to buy water

That's sounds a pretty expensive way of doing it to me.
Unless you are in a very hard water area, you could make it cheaper with resin only.
You would need to buy two DI vessels though and connect them up  to your tap.  The pipe from the second one would fill the containers.  Sure there's an outlay for the vessels and the resin but even with a TDS of 250, you should be able to get about 2,000 litres from a bag of resin (around £70).  So that's 100 x 20 litre barrels for £70.  The vessels can cost a bit but it wouldn't take too long before you started saving.  Even with a much higher TDS you would save.

Thanks shiner/ Gazza the only reason im buying the water is that i wanted to see the results of wfp. After a while i will get a small RO to fit in the outhouse/shed
Ive only got a small round of about 100 custies but most of them are decent sized houses average 16 windows per house, thanks though for the comments, good or bad we gotta learn from them ;)

A di system would be really cheaper than paying for water dude, thats about 2.50 every 2 hours of work, soon add up over weeks, year... go di, or even better an ro, but if you are still dabbling with idea go di to save money!  What area you live in, whats the water like if you know??

A di vessel would be okay, that level isnt too bad, its medium really, some of lads on here will tell you how much running costs are on di for that tds read, i use ro so dont go through resin so quick, but definitely gonna be cheaper, and you can just plug into custys tap and clean if you need, so if you run out you  dont have to go home, or shop again!!

Thanks matt.
Dont these small RO units need more attention than the bigger beasts, filter, resin etc
How long would it take to fill a 20ltr container and can you still get a TDS of zero?

Then a water container to go into and submersible pump to fill barrells! Di you can just fill containers straight off the tap! at same speed as tap pressure!

About 35 mins with a 300gpd.

Buy a tank or water but and fill about 200l worth and fill you barrels/drums from that.

no, they need the filter changed the sort of times as other units ( infact the bigger RO's just use a series of smaller RO's to up the output ), i ran a RO for 3 years without doing anything, it died in the end, but for 80 quid it wasnt bad, funny though the 2nd RO didnt even last 1 year :(

you can get it down to 000 TDS with a DI resin container, you can get small DI's upto big DI's that you will not need to change for a long time

a smaller unit say 75 gallons per day into a 210 L rainwater butt is great

75 x 4.54l = 340.5l

340.5l divided by 24hrs = 14l per hour

210 litres divided by 14 = 15hrs to fill.

I think  ??? ???

Usually less than the rated figures but I would leave mine running through the weekends if needed.

mine was slightly more than that

i used to use no more than 6 X 25 L a day, the RO would run 24 hours a day, intill all barrels and the rain water butt was full, this would normally be friday

i would start the week with 14 X 25 L barrels full and the 210 L rainwater butt, this did me fine

My tap water tds went up to 180 when they put us on temp water supply while they did some repairs (normally 076)
I use di only had a 6.9 ltr vessel using between 350 - 500ltrs a day and my resin lasted 4 weeks, so i would go down that route definately
