Do you think location dictates the amount you can charge for your window cleaning service compared with the rest of the Uk  prices?

The last few days have seen some controversial views regarding pricing. Does where you live and work affect your pricing structure and do you think it's unfair that some of you are working harder than others doing exactly the same job but in a different location or are you feeling smug that you're lucky where you are. Is window cleaning a postcode lottery just like the NHS?

I think location can dictate pricing but also within any area you can still get different levels of pricing
It all depends what you are wanting from the business your overheads could be lower so can price lower you may employ many staff and only need a small profit from each you may want to retire early with loads of money in the bank or are quite happy strolling along and have enough for your bills and a few luxuries
Everyone runs their businesses differently we all want different things

I clean in two opposite ends of Torquay as an example. One end is full of doctors, writers, artists, etc the other is everyday run of the mill people. Both different prices and periodic clean intervals but they work out roughly the same. Then I work in South Hams where houses prices are unreal. Some 2 bedroom properties are half a million plus and upwards, no guessing which are my favourite. A difference of 18 miles mostly because of scenery can make a massive difference to prices.

Location is the key to any business, especially window cleaning. If you clean houses where there struggling to pay the bills your never going to get top rates,if you do houses like this it`s a numbers game and that`s to much like hard work IMO.

I Hate pricing a job in a poor paying area knowing it will take me as long to do, as one which pays nearly double that , for the same house type , in another area...

in fact sometimes i am angry whilst cleaning it, does that make sense?  ;)

Even different street have an effect, even though I use the same pricing structure, I find that people living in nicer areas, or areas with higher selling prices, tend to accept qoute more freely, however in less well off areas I find you get more people not accepting your qoute.

and they are the ones who think 6 quid is a heck of a lot, they check your work, begrudge paying extra for conservatory, and tell you all about the cheap cleaner they used to have..... who left all the frames for us.... as it was too cheap..

I've given quotes where the last window cleaner was charging half what I quote. The shocked look on their face is priceless. Then I ask "why did their last window cleaner stop calling", no answer from them but I know why, because he was to cheap although I won't tell them this as I don't think it's professional to knock previous window cleaners, I leave the customer to reflect. Think of a price in your head and stick to it unless it's a really big place that you could haggle a bit whilst making it worthwhile.
