would this break h & s?
« on: September 30, 2008, 07:34:46 pm »
i think that some w/cleaners use wfp mainley but also on occasions use ladders for upstairs would that not be breaking h & s regs (unless when wfp not suitable i.e builders cleans or on flat roofs etc.) i.e if customer dosent like wfp is that a good enough reason?

I seen a guy in my area with the thermo pure logo etc on his van and they were doing resident of a ladder. I think this would break H+S as a safer option is available.

If the customer would rather you risk your own safety because of there skeptism I would drop them, if its a qaulity issue then sort it out(find out why?) and redo them.

Tell them your fine to use a ladder, but if you fall off, you will recover costs through their insurance!

Personally if you have the wfp, and there is nothing to stop you from using it eg power lines. Otherwise charge them for ladders and ask them to open the windows so you can tie up the ladders to their frames..

I think they will get the idea :P

A lot of builders cleans you can't use ladders and have to be done with WFP.
Most sites we work at no longer allow ladders

The law on ladders is a lot more strict if you employ, what you do is different to what your staff are allowed to do and still be insured.

Paul what sites do not allow you to use ladders as I work on a fair few now and all are ok on ladderwork for builders cleans except if you have to climb onto the tiles

how does wfp remove plastics, morter and general builders crud ?? because if you wfp these I am doing something very very wrong.

Please let me know as I have done many builders cleans and wfp just does not cut it.

We do a lot of work for langs, Persimmon, countryside properties and just started with a new one this week but can't remeber the name of my head.

Hi Ian

The way we are doing them if they are covered in silicon, cement etc is either try to do from insides, or pole with scraper and if no other way we use either scissor lift or cherry picker.

Here is a pic of one of builders clean we are doing at the moment.

not again .h s quote . ladders ar not banned .as long as common sense is used .. they say ( h .s .)single tasks that take longer than 30mins in one position ar not suitable for ladders .therefor consider another alternative .wfp etc .so if u can clean a top window in under 30mins. u r. ok end of .

Your right as long as its for short durations it is allowed the site we are on at the moment do say a ladder can be used only as a last resort and they have to be tied at the top and an adequate safety device at the bottom or footed by someone.

Normal window cleaning is short durations and is allowed

what i meant was if you dont use wfp then its not a probllem, use ladders,  not having a go or anything about ladders not being safe to use or banned etc, just thought that if you have wfp but use ladders where wfp would work shurley that would not be the safest and therefore not accepted by h & s?.
