Cleaning of Floor Tile Grouting
«

Hi all,
I've been asked to clean the grout on a ladies kitchen / Diing room floor. The area is terracotta Tiling and the original grout was White
but is now soiled and grey.
I did try various products on a test area some time ago without too much success :
but the lady informs me that she has tried 'Oxyclene' from the supermarket quite successfully
so wants me to return and try that.... unless anyone has any other tried and tested ideas

It might be worth trying to sell grout colouring, as you'll struggle to get it back to a uniform white. If you use Aquamix Grout Colourant then you can sell it as making the floor uniform all over, with the benefit of giving it a waterproof epoxy seal. I'd actually try to convince her to colour it grey, as white grout in a kitchen is always going to take a hiding and need a lot of maintenance.

Thanks for the replies.
I did try the steam but without much success I'm afraid
I also spoke to some floor tiling specialists who all agreed that the problem began when they had white grout put down in the first place.
One tiler said he could grind out the old grout and replace it with Swimming pool grade grout which is of course impervious to water....
the stumbling block was of course the price
I just wondered if anyone had discovered a 'miracle' product that I could get hold of.
Thanks again

Your tiler mate is talking about replacing it with epoxy grout - a right pain in the backside. Theres no need to do that if you colour the grout - the existing grout (if sound) should take the epoxy colourant, and it'll give the best result she is ever going to get, and it's easy to apply. It's a bit of a miracle product if you ask me - I'm a tiler and I know that grout can go off patchy and this stuff can be a life saver when that happens.
(I'm not a salesman btw, just passing on my experience).

Trades Direct up in Staffs stock it online (google them), and I know Craven Dunnill stock it too. It's not on any shelves in the diy sheds - you have to be trade to get hold of it usually.
