Weird Problem
« on: September 25, 2008, 04:06:30 pm »
Custy rings up a few months ago saying there is a sticky residue on his windows.

Prior to cleaning the windows I had cleaned his Fascia etc used TFR and presumed I had contaminated the brush. So I went and hand polished all the windows and removed this sticky residue.

Same custy rings up again yesterday complaining of the same problem. This time only windows have been cleaned. The back was done with Backpack filled with RO water TDS 000 no DI. Fronts done from Van tank RO water tds 000 then through di TDS 000.

The frames are Upvc, it’s on all the windows bar 1, used two different brushes/poles for the clean.
I cleaned my own windows last night and they are fine and no other complaints.

Anyone have any clue what this could be?  ???

Cheers Wayne

There are no tree's close to the property.

If it was tree sap will wfp not bring this off?

There are the usual hedges around the property but dont go anywhere near the upper windows.

Yep I know what you mean I've seen it. It was about 6 months ago when I did the fascias etc when it first happened. Not touched them since. Its not just little drip marks its all over the window as if the water beads have dried with something in the water, only the water is pure. If it was water from the van through di I would have thought it was something to do with the resin, but as I did the back 1st with BP and no water had gone through a Di it sort of knocks that on the head.

Thanks for the help so far keep the suggestions coming I'm sure someone will have the answer.

it cant be anything to do with you or your water if what you say is true are the frames pvc i was thinking something coming from putty or paint or has the customer been spraying something like green fly killer near them , i think you need to talk to him to see whats been happening round the outside of his house to give you a clue of what it is

One of my customers had a residue on one of their windows. It turned out it was something like Thompsons water seal, used to help waterproof dodgy brickwork. Could it be something like this?

I have had two similar probs.

One was from a climbing rose which the gardener had sprayed with some chemical.
The other was from some idiot who decided to put a waterproof coat on the walls........and everything else!

The rose prob was not to bad but the waterproof job was a nightmare. Still on some of the windows now.
Thankfully the owner has paid for the extra work.

Just a question, what is the glass like when you clean it? Does it bead up like on the bonnet of a car thats been wax polished?

Ok. Spoke to custy and water seal and garden sprays are not the problem.

As for airplanes and fuel I presume they only dump fuel over sea not land.

The water does bead on the windows (phobic glass) although I think it sheets on one of them. What are you thinking Vince?

They've been drying corn, if it's in the countryside, but that's more of a dust. Is it on one side of the house more than another?

Not in the country side Clive.

Affected windows are front and rear. There's only 1 window that isn't affected and 1 door. The door is pretty much sheltered but the main lounge window isn't and that's the only one OK.

I suspect it could something airborne but cant pin point it.
