power reel ltd
« on: September 17, 2008, 03:00:00 pm »
Hi all
after trying to buy a motor driven hose reel for a sensible price, and failing
i have started a new company to achieve just that!
and over the last 5 weeks have been developing a motor driven reel with several engineering companies help and am now close to a prototype.

its features will include being,

floor mounted
variable speed 0-100rpm (also has  software that detects a ''stall'' which shuts down the motor then simply turn off and on again to re-start)
100m capacity
internal 12v battery with split charge relay (wont drain your van battery)
it also has its own mains charger fitted (can either be plugged into the mains or connected and charged via your van battery/alternator)

accessories will include a swivel plate conversion
and a wheeled version
im also considering a conversion kit  for those of you that want to keep your reel but just motorise it

the retail price will be £375

although not live yet ,when i have the finished product the website will be built and will feature videos of it in use.
for your info it will be:
www.power-reel.co.uk

alex gardiner will be trialing one of the first models as i know you respect his opinion.
considering how good his slx has turned out his comments will be valuable.

anyone who is interested in one please email with your details and i will put you on my list to contact when the first batch are made.

look forward to everyones thoughts ..................... and i hope you all want 2 each as its cost a small fortune to develop!!

please understand this product is being built to a high standard and will be rugged enough to be used allday everyday

the construction is of mild steel which will be either powder coated or stone enameled so yes it will be rust proof, i expected most people to have them mounted in vans so didnt give it much thought.

now you raise it, i will make it splash proof by adding seals to the compartment with all the parts in and ill also waterproof the controls and emergency stop button.

so thanks to your question yes it will be waterproof!

any other ideas/suggestions are welcome ...................... especially good ones!

Sounds very good. I know this product will have a big demand. Those reading this thinking what do i need one of them for, will find out soon enought when they they see one in action. I couldn't even think about going back to a manaul reel.

Alex's opinion is respected, but the best users will be repeat domestics.

My advice is make a simple product that works(do you need a battery split relay etc, most have one already)- leave the fancy stuff and accesories for later.

I think the price is fair, and for the time being you will not be charging vat.

hi Discount
I went with putting the battery and other bits in because i dont want to limit myself to the wfp market eg elderley gardeners  presssure washing firms etc and when i get time to sit down and think about all kinds of other applications will find it handy.

the hardest part was making it a sensible price which is where i started then worked backwards trying to get in on budget but still keeping the quality high.

however when dealing with guys who do have split charge and battery and are going for purely van mount systems i can look at supplying units without them.

the speed control is a simple twist on and off dial starting at 0 and going to 100rpm the software in the electronics allows for the hose getting snagged and when it detects the motor being stopped while the power is still on it shuts down to re-set it just switch off and on again

like you say domestic rounds will appreciate it best im in and out my van doing 20-30 houses a day so it will save a lot of handcranking and most important time
