I agree that personal pensions are a rip off, I would have been better if I had stuck the money under the bed.
Ian Lancaster has got it sorted with his franchising plan, I take my hat off to that guy, he should have a very comfortable retirement.
Here I am 66 and working like a dog.

I have a customer who had a small chain of local shops, he paid into a pension plan like mad, 1000's every month, anyway he retired at 50 something and gets 1000 a week out of it to live on now! Not too shabby eh!! Evrytime i see him hes living it up, going out for meals, drives a new merc, wife has R32 golf, Good on him but i dont think i would trust it, putting all my money in a pension but its tax free isnt it so no doubt thats why he did it?
