hi everyone

as beeing redundant from my full time job thinking about to start an office cleaning business with my wife in hampshire.we had and have second jobs as  cleaners,as well work hard.
about the pricing i think i have to charge at least 10£ just to get something for us - i might be wrong.
my other concern is whether companies will deal with us on an equal level because of our hungarian origin - i`m worried i won`t get contracts due to my accent..?
any advice much appreciated.

i think your worries are unfounded really. You are setting up a business in England we are probably the least racist country in the world there are people from every country living and working here. You certainly will not be refused work from any reputable business because you have a hungarian accent.

Pricing I take it you mean £10 per hour? Just remember you need to cover your overheads plus earn a living i'd say £15 per hour plus is more the going rate for providing a good cleaning service.

those 15£ i personally think it`s way too much p/h.my wife cleans for a pub,she earns 6£,the cleaning company charges double and the pub is not satisfied with the price./the pub supplies everything/
as well we`re doing some office cleaning where are hourly rate is 6.45£ and the cleaning company charge just under 10£ with supplying only the basic detergents.
therefore if i`m gonna charge 15£ /i`d like to/ i`m not going to get contracts.probably if i would supply everything,then yes that`s a reasonable amount.

You always find customers who complain they're paying too much for cleaning (the pub). £15 per hour sounds a lot to a cleaner who's been getting paid £6 per hour but you are running the business and are in it to make a profit. Maybe you could try charging a set price without letting them know the hourly rate eg. £30 per clean for cleaning eg. toilets, sinks, floors, dusting etc instead of saying £15 per hour 2 2 hrs.

Or try £13 per hour if your happier with that.

On office cleaning contracts you do not go below £12.50 p/h.

You have to price them as if you were going to staff them.

Imagine a few months down the line when you have a few, you've priced low to get the work but now you need staff?

All of a sudden you find out that when all your costs are taken out you are making £1 profit, per week!

Cost it professionally & do a professional job.

thinking about to send introduction letters around to say we are new,friendly,hard working providing professional service etc.
don`t think flyers would do the job for contract cleaning.it`s not formal.

hopefully will have a few inquires than i try what you suggest..depends on the area ..

i mean i wouldnt be too happy to pay the accountant before i actually starting to get something out of the business..

I didn't get an accountant until a few months before the end of my first year. Then passed all the relavant paperwork etc to him. Won't get a bill until the tax returns have been done which is  end January next year.

Look the part do a great job be happy and helpfull £15.00 per hour or visit if less than an hour all day long , we do and never have a problem (quality costs)

Myself and my partner both study with the open university, my partner is just finishing an accountancy course. The full course will have cost us around £900 ish.  I reckon we will save a fortune not paying an accountant.
