READ PUBLICATIONS??I have had
« on: September 04, 2008, 12:30:24 pm »
I have had these on the phone today, offering to put us in the 2009 publication for West Yorks. Apparantley it gets distributed round all the public service buildings. (council buildings, schools, inland revenue etc)
At a cost of £45.00 + VAT i have said i will give it a go. I have looked at there website and it looks ok.
Has anyone tried this in the past, and did you get a decent response?

Not sure exactly what sort of publication you are talking about but if it's what I think it is then probably you will find it is a complete waste of money (even if it isn't a large amount).

Generally, these types of organisations already have contracts and even if you get the chance to quote you may find you get hamstrung with the tendering process/methodology/paperwork they require.

Finally, remember that the person who contacted you was principally interested in selling advertising space and not trying to get business for you although I accept it would probably only take one job to pay for itself. If you think about it, if you are thinking of engaging some contractor do you automatically go hunting through calendars or looking for engraved pens to try and find the business you feel comfortable with? No, you will probably ask for a recommendation or look in a more traditional place of advertising eg. YP or Yell.

Hope I'm not being too much of a cynic. :)
