I'm pretty sure the output from my RO unit is slower than normal.

I'm using a 300gpd Freedom unit, with a 1 litre Di vessel all pushed through with a booster pump.


My TDS is 000ppm, and the three main filters where changed two months ago. The two filters have never been changed in the year that its been filtering about 400 litres a day x  4 days a week.

Tap Water TDS is approx 60 to 80 ppm

The one thing that makes me wonder something is not right is the pump tone - Normally when i turn the tap to flush I hear a change in the pump tone, then when I turn the tap to filter I normally hear the pump tone change again , as the water resistance increases.

Also, my pump tap would make a ' water being resisted' type of noise as it was turn to flush and back again.

But there's no change in tone at all now.

Water is being purified, and there is a visible difference in flow between Booster Pump on, and off.

But I'm sure my tank is taking longer to fill, although I haven't had the time to measure this yet.

Just wondered if any of you folks have experienced a similar problem, and what was your solution?

do away with unit and pump fit larg di unut next to pump in van fill tank with tap water.
go out and earn some money dont worry about making pure water use di instead.
your lucky to have such low tds.

Sounds like your pump's not working even though it's making a noise.

Are there worth repairing?

If a diaphragm has broken then yes it is worth repairing. If it is anything more serious then usually no. The diaphragm can be replaced fairly easily by yourself.

What doe's the diaphragm look like, and is it obvious if it need replacing?

If it does need a replacement, where can I get one from?

I've contacted Cleantec who supplied me the pump, as its only 4  to 5 months old I would have thought it would be under some kind of warranty - but haven't heard from them yet!

The diaphragm is located between the pump body and head and is a flat rubber washer with circular markings on it. It will be obvious if it is broken as there will be a split in the rubber.

You can usually get replacements from the manufacturer or main importer.

OK, took the lid off and the diaphragm looked OK - it took the section off and connected the wires and the pump ran and sounded fine.

Put it back together, and started everything up - still not getting a good supply of pure water though - in fact I turned the pump all together, and get no water coming though !

Should I be thinking of changing all the filters including the pre filters?

Did you check the right diaphragm?  There is usually a small diaphragm (about 1") just below the pressure switch which is the diaphragm that activates the pressure switch.  There is another larger diaphragm (diameter of the pump body) lower down with at least two circular marks on them.

This pump has a central diaphragm about 3/4 inch , and them 4 smaller diaphragms/switches about the size of a 5p piece each having a spring - but I couldn't tell whether they were functional or not

Best to get the supplier to check it out for you - I don't know which model that is.

I thinks I have tracked the problem down to a ' blocked' pre carbon filter.

I removed each filter, and ran the RO to see what happened - When I removed carbon filter, and turn the tap and pump on the water pressure was back to normal.


Alex - I'll be poping an order in tonight, if the weather is foul tomorrow I pop over and collect if that's OK.

Funny you should ask! I have just put the Dual-Trim Super-Lites back on the website. They have slightly improved scrubbing power compared to the last batch.

We are still awaiting the next batch of single-trim ones though, probably about 10-14 days.
