Google SEO Without Codes??
« on: August 27, 2008, 03:06:41 pm »
I've had a website created and been told by Gary on here I need the codes from the designer to beable to do anything. I wasn't able to get the codes from the guy - is there anything else that can be done without spending anymore money on it??

It would be nice if my new website could actually be seen when someone searches - Please help

What you just said ok - you paid him for your website and now he won't give you access to something you have paid for ? He has got to give you the codes else its not yours. If he refuses to allow you what you want get on to trading standards and tell them he has mis-sold you and the website is not fit for purpose and he refuses to sort it. Slap him.

This may take some time to resolve.
Meanwhile, you could try google adwords - they are quite straightforward to use and need not cost a fortune.

Google ad words are no substitute for a decent website, don't help in the natural listings and are an expensive short term gain - whats to stop your competitors clicking your days or evens your months budget away, then you've got the bill for no advertising. Time is better spent finding free listings on directorys as in the end thats how google finds the websites - obviously this is a simplistic view of how it works. Free directorys are best found by looking what directorys your competitors are on by googleing their names. Anyway what has your web designer got to gain by not giving you access - if you mess it up he could charge you to correct it.

Your totally right - I have paid for this website and he shouldn't refuse to give me the information I want. Just send him an email telling him I want the codes as its MY website although he designed it. He won't be happy when I saw him last he wasn't happy when I told him I'd spoken to people re.SEO saying they were just slating his work and trying to get money out of me by saying they could get me on the first page of google - he's a bit firey!!

TO BE CONTINUED!!

I would also be wary of these SEO's - I know I'm full of negatives but in the end you will need to do some work, learn how to change keywords and create keyword rich text that is relavent to the subject and refine the site to your area covered. Get SEO for dummy's

change your 'title tag'. instead of your co name, say what you do and where. ie cleaning in Ipswich. you can use up to 60 letters to keep it google friendly.
Also ask your man for h1, h2 etc tags.
Google searchs from title to h1 etc to content.
have lots of hyperlinks to the other pages within your site.
get your site linked to from other sites.
links are like votes. if another site has got a link to your site, it is saying that this is a good relevent site and is worthy of a high rank. the more the better.
