« on: July 24, 2008, 02:22:25 pm »
Right here we go

My tap water in to membranes is =345 @ 75 psi

Out of 1st membrane                   =  13

Out of second membrane             =  16

Combined                                     =  15

Out of first DI                               =  12

Out of second Di                          = 11

Changed both resin cannisters last night both reading 000

I have made 450 Litres of pure and the water in the tank says 002

Changed all three pre filters last weak !

has any body got any ideas ???

When i first started wfp the water out of membranes was coming out at 6. Membranes are about 2 years old

The membranes are getting old mine did this changed the membranes and all was good again,

Try flushing the membranes for an hour or so first to see if that does the trick

I wouldn't be so sure that it is the membranes, The tds from the ro is still quite low. The resin should last longer than 450 L before rising Di only people get more than that.

The RO seems to be working fine.

Resin should be OK as well. I would watch what happens over the next day or two looking to see if the reading our of the DI rises. In fact take a reading of the water out of the DI  BEFORE it goes into the tank. I wouldnt worry about a variation of only 2PPM as long as it doesn't continue to rise.

Let us know how you get on.

Its 011 out of second DI and started out at 000 yesterday at about 6 oclock when i changed them both so in the space of 450 litres its gone up to 011 !!!

OOPS  Sorry Marcus..I didn't fully read the figures in your first post.

Something is wrong.

Check the figures out of your RO again.

Diagnosing RO issues is a real pain  :(

I suspected your TDS from RO was going up.

It could be:

1/  Tap TDS has risen a lot..this can happen temporarilly
2/  Tap pressure has dropped.
3/   Membranes are on their way out.
4/  (Long shot)  Your TDS meter may be reading wrong.. have you got a mate near you with one to check yours?

I notice you said you changed your pre-filters very recently. I am going to do a thread about what to do when you do this.

I have a massive variation in my tap TDS. It seems to go higher in hot weather. (it can vary from between about 250 (cold) and 480 (hot). Is the tds of the water usually around the same or does it vary quite a lot?

There has got to be something with your DI, I mean, RO should be fine, coming out at that TDS, the DI's do not polish the water somehow, 16 out of RO is very good, now that's what I get, but my DI vessel brings it down, question is, why does it not with yours?

Long shot again but are there any works near you on the water mains?

I have seen an RO literally with mud in it when there were works near the road where it was in. It also may have been a temporary but very high increase in tap TDS for some reason.. the increase in RO TDS output suggests higher tap TDS. You booster pump rules out drop in water pressure.

Surely if the tds out of the ro was 10 after two di`s it would bring it down to 000. If tds out of ro was 50 after 2 di`s it would still be 000 !? (for sake of argument)

I see you have 2 x 700 ml DI vessels.

Between them they will take out around 30000 TDS.

At 23 out of RO you should get around 1300 ltrs pure. Bearing in mind your DI's are in tandem they will take out more TDS but I reckon the resin is now spent. I am pretty sure you have had a bad inrease in tap TDS for some reason.

I am pretty sure of this.

The only real way to see if it settles down is to replace the DI resin.

If the RO out reading keeps climbing your mebranes need replacing.
