hot weather,,spots wfp
« on: July 19, 2008, 06:50:28 pm »
we all know that wfp is a good tool, however sometimes it,s not that good,at times when i,ve done windows on a hot day i,ve noticed white spots on the glass after it,s dried,i,ve had my flow up realy high in order to cool the glass and stop it drying out  to fast,so what,s the answer, the prime example was i gave my jeep a good wash today, one side of it was in direct strong sunlight and guess what after it had all dried one side was coverd in spots,,,this all makes me wonder what do customers think after we have cleaned there windows on hot days,,it makes me feel quite ashamed if a customer phoned me up to say her windows have all spots on them,,,gosh if i can,t even clean windows what hope is there for me,,,and before you all ask, ive been wfp for nearly 2 years, and my tds is always 00

Did you turn your van round to see if the spots were visible on the other side in similiar light?

Its funny that you say that.. I find hot days better for the reach and wash than trade.. The reason because the glass is so hot you are more likely to leave scuf marks  and because the sun is in your face and you cannot see properly untill the sun light moves  ::)

As you have said the sun is all window cleaners enemy..

You should find that the spots only happen on one side of the house where the sun is directly on the glass...

You can start earlier to avoid the main heat of the day or have a siesta in the middle of the day what I do is just rinse more on the windows that are in direct light and I mean a good rinse. no problems so far for me  ;D

I would be using more water on a hot day for that reason, the first lot of water you cover the glass with will almost evaporate if it`s really hot.

Cottonbud states very clearly that it happens on hot days  tds should still be the same ;)

Tucker have developed a dual trim brush with a soft sponge centre to help with the spotting on hot glass. One thing the USA may be ahead of us with ?

believe me i know that i rinse well on hot days, for the reason of trying to cool the glass in order to stop spots, i have 2 tds meters and they are both showing 00,and also i,ve turned my jeep round and yes the spots are the same in the shade as in the sun. is it possible that other countrys with hotter climates have the same problem with spotting or do they have some knowledge that we don,t

To be honest you will get spots mostly from some sort of contamination ie dirty frames or overspray from jets onto brickwork or something,if the frames and glass are clean you are far less likely to get spots or spots that will hardly be visable.

I've thought about buying that type of brush but decided against it. Them brushes are designed for large panes of glass and aren't suitable for georgian windows with all the partition bars. Not only for that reason but for the fact that the sponge may trap grit, snails, heavy soilage and similar causing scratches to appear on the glass.

I use both hot or cold WFP. I have never had any problems with spotting using cold water on hot glass, even wall to wall, top to ground size, as I always rinse thoroughly and use plenty of water.

Struggled yesterday trying to clean a large house where the windows had a layer of baked on white dirt across the whole pane of glass on nearly every single window as this house had never been cleaned in over 20 years and the new owners couldn't see out of it.. Had to scrub it three times using hot wfp. Took me an hour an a quarter. Christ knows how much water I used and how long it would have taken if I was using cold water instead. House of that size I normally do in 30 mins.

I sometimes get spots on windows in direct sunlight on very hot days,.. but its normally only on first cleans or badly maintained timber frames.

Fail to see what hot sunny weather has got to do with spots, are you saying the sun is causing spots, surely if a window has been scrubbed and rinsed with 000 tds pure water then it's clean no matter how sunny/dull the day is.
Might just be on a hot day the window has dried by the time we go to put the slip through the door and just take a quick peek at the cleaned glass and :o .......spots.... maybe I'm not quite as good as I thought I was.
Hopefully the customer got better things to do than go examining all the windows when they get home ;D

i've never had this problem.

I would agree with john tomkins and suggest that it's just that you've noticed spots on a hot day because the window has dried before you left the property. perhaps you didn't rinse your car as well as you thought ???

surely the sun can only benefit us as  the water dries up so quick leaving less time for the pure water to absorb contaminents back from the air

the dirt doesnt get chance to run of the window before it starts to dry in
