Standard Cellulose Thinners (Jeff1)
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:29:17 pm »
Hi Jeff, a couple of Q's for you

You mentioned using Standard Cellulose Thinners on upvc cleans. Does this stuff bring the white silicone back to white to?

Is it labour intensive ie: lots of elbow grease or does it just simply wipe off?

I use Doktor Power at the mo and find it's really good but does need a bit of blood, sweat and cramp in the hand after a good rubbing. (as the actress said to the bishop) :o

Also do you not have any probs with spotting on the glass after using Mer polish when cleaning frame/glass with wfp on subsequent cleans?

I use Mer on the Van and the cars but after I use it, it leaves a bit of a mess on the screen for a few days after.

Cheers
Wayne

Hi Wayne
To be perfectly honest, I have never taken any notice of the silicon, I suppose if it didn't clean it, I would have noticed it still grubby, but on my next one I'll pat attention to it.

The thing you have to remember when using Cellulose Thinners is to get it off quickly with a clean dry cloth and don't under any circumstances leave it sitting on the PVCu, or you'll be in trouble.

As for the Mer polish, I use very little of it, I don't use it Like I would use it on my car, its a wipe with the polish and then a good buffing with a clean dry cloth, So the answer to that question is NO I have never yet had a problem with spotting caused by Mer polish

Sugar soap will not remove discoloured stains from PVCu, been there and tried it.

Seemed to remove the ones I was doing Jeff, but maybe these were not embedded in plastic, it worked for me, it got mastic up white only saying from experience on it,

This is the stuff I presume jeff?

www.cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270255073907&ih=017&category=30923&_trksid=p3286.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DK%252BD%252BC%26otn%3D2%26po%3DOp1%26ps%3D5

Also Wet & Dry

I've use sugar soap on the bathroom tile grout and it does bring the white grout back to white, but gain it's very labour intensive.

I know the type of stain you refer to Ian, Try sugar soap on sun stains, where the sun has basically bleached the PVCu and it won't shift it.

A member on here several months back had tried to shift a stain on a front door that had been bleached by the sun, he  used loads of products mentioned by members, including sugar soap, Nothing would shift the stain, He then tried the Cellulose Thinners and shifted the stain in seconds.

Cellulose Thinners is also very good for the little sucker marks left by creeping Ivy, if you try to shift them with sugar soap, just make sure you price well because you'll be there for a long time.

A little test for you Ian.

One door with a sun stain on it (often a deep yellowish stain) clean half with sugar soap and time yourself, Now clean the other half with Cellulose Thinners and time yourself, I won't say anything but let me know the results, not only for the time taken but for the results of the Job.
