17' xtel about to expire, what shall I replace it with?
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:31:49 am »
As it says in the title really, these poles don't last forever.  What's a good replacement for it, or would you say going for another is a good idea?

Simon.

Gardiner Pole systems SL-X. IMO the only pole you'll ever need for domestic.

i find that the hexaganal 118ft extender rangs is by far the best pole for domestic purpose, but they still dont last forever. the thing i like about this pole is that it does not spin, because the pole is not round, therefore easier to apply pressure when cleaning

118ft  :o

I've had a couple of 12's before and they were good, a bit rickety after a while.  I didn't think they were as good as the xtel though.

Are there any SL-X's in stock at the moment?

Simon.

I use one of these at the mo for usual domestic stuff but I'd also be tempted to have I crack at cobbeling the Harris pole. I know I will when this current one gives up.

Probably dipping my hand in my pocket for the SL-X in a week or two but I would still use a cheap pole for everyday use and keep the 25ft for the 3 story an more awkward jobs.

Great Vid BTW Ian :)

I have had 3 X-Tels and liked them very much. But now i have the SLX, if you can stretch to the price Simon its really well worth the money. I have taken on a new guy and bought him a new X-Tel, have been showing him how to clean, and my god, i was so glad to get back to using the SLX.

Come on Simon...go the way of the SLX...you know it makes sense!

Word on the street is that the Xtel got a 'helping hand' in expiring so the decision about which pole to buy came sooner than your wife expected  ;)

You trying to get me in trouble, the Mrs is now convinced that I'm trying to put my good old faithful xtel to rest (maybe I should stop using it for jousting competitions).  You could always do me a favor and try and convince her for me.

Thanks for all the replies guys, not being horrible about the harris pole but I don't think it's for me.

A question on the SLX has anybody stopped using it as they didn't like it?  Are they in stock yet?

Simon.

If funds permit the purchase of an sl-x it will pay for itself very quickly. It realy is a superb pole, one pole for tops & bottoms, light, rigid, very robust! It's the king of the castle at the mo' IMO. ;)

Got to agree. It's a great pole. I got your message today Simon - it looks like she gave in then!

See you on Friday at the annual jaunt to Norwich.

Got the SL-X in the end.  Used it solid for a couple of days, fully extended at awkward angles and so on.  It works like a dream.  Today I used my 28ft hybrid xtel for the backs of 2 places that just needed that extra length, now I thought that the hybrid was a good pole (which it is), but after 2 days with the SL-X it was like wresting with a 28ft snake.  The SL-X makes doing the second floor up as easy as doing the ground floor, it's just so stiff.

Am I preaching to the converted?!?

Simon.

Yesss SL-X is fantastic. I'm glad you went for it, it's a big expense, but def. worth it.

Lovely looking pole but all I can do is admire it at the moment.  Unfortunately it arrived with the white plastic Y piece broken.  I thought "No problem" as I have some spares.  It was then I realised that my spares are a bit larger than the ones Gardiner's use.  Ho hum.  A few spares will be arriving in the next couple of days (my SL2 one broke too recently).  At least I have some glass and ali poles to get me by for now.  They may be heavier but it's better than not working.
