My Latest Greatest Invention
« on: July 12, 2008, 07:28:37 pm »
I've mentioned this a few times, and to be honest the idea hasn't really generated the interest I'd been looking for; to recap for those that might have missed my repeated hints:

Point one
Poles wear because dirt gets between the sections, this is introduced largely by the pole hose being on the floor picking up grit and grime as we work and then depositing this inside the pole when it's drawn in during extension.

Point Two
Working with pole hose spagetti on the floor is not only an ungainly tangle inducing mess. It gets trood on and tripped over and skipping over it like a girl looks very unprofesional. Add to this that it often catches itself on garden furniture while working or moving between windows and  maybe it's about time we did something about it?

So the great invention is an idea to keep the pole hose off the floor. Is it simple? Yes. Does it work? Yes.Should I show and tell? I'm not sure, that's why i've put the poll up.

What if ............ you run the hose outside, velcro'd to the brush head only and avoid contact with the pole? Pole should last for about fifty years i rekon.

Oh go on then, put us out of our misery just promise me it's better than the last one please. ;)

i use a numatic trigger on pole , hose connects via a schrader connecter to trigger pole hose, which is cut to right length to connect to other end of trigger when pole is fully extended, no pole hose dragging on floor when extended , when collapsed to clean downstairs , i simply grab hose at bottom of pole run upto lenth of my pole fold in half and wrap pre fitted velcro strap ,[ the type sold by gardiners for their supalites ] round folded pole hose , hose never gets dirty , so no wear problems , plus instant control over water , simply by pressing depressing trigger

My personal opinion. Worry less about wether dirt gets on your pole hose and concentrate on finding quicker methods of working with wfp. Then you wouldn't give a monkeys about your pole, just think of the extra dosh you earned through learning to work quicker and just buy a new pole when the old one starts wearing out. That's what I do. Always getting faster and finding all the shortcuts I use to miss out before. :)

My mum always use to tell me: look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.

I say: stuff the pennies, I look after the pounds and stuff the pennies. :)

I voted - show us.  A hose that levitates off the ground would be cool.

You only need to keep the first few feet that actually go up into the pole from touching the ground. A harness/clip with the hose over your shoulder will do this.

Fast can also work against you and i have had a customer or two over the years drop me for an old dodderer that takes ages. Some people are very old fashioned and think that if you take your time on a job you geta better result. Not necessarily true.
