How to flush?
« on: July 06, 2008, 09:56:40 pm »
My merlin is only putting out 060 tds from 350 tap.
It has a relatively new prefilter and membranes seem ok and are screwed in properly so ???

Any ideas anyone? Should i flush it and if so how please?

Cheers

how old are the membranes?

what is your inlet pressure?

are you testing the water as soon as it comes out of the ro? - if so you need to let it run for 10mins before the tds reading will settle.

From 350ppm you should be looking at 015ppm from your merlin.

Thanks,

The membranes are not even a year old and yes I am letting it run for a good while before taking reading.

It is just from a normal outside tap, i dont know the pressure.

when i first used it, it was getting down to around 012 then went up to 030 and is now at 060 and i have put a new filter in since then.

So i'm a bit baffled :(

my merlin was kickIng out 12ppm at 60psi from 230ppm when I had it new 7 months ago.

it is now at 25ppm at 60psi from 230ppm.

i've recently changed my prefilter, so perhaps I need to flush mine also.

do you have to buy something to flush it then?

is it not just a matter of connecting a different port up to the mains ???

sounds to me like chlorine damage.

the top port is for flushing - either connect it to a pressurised tank of pure water or to your pure water hose from the pump.

worth a try

I take it you don't connect up the 2nd port up to the mainsat the same time

I'm sure you can switch pipes and manually flush,.. but it's a huge pain.
If you buy the flush kit, it makes it simple,... so you'll prob do it more regular,.. and your membranes will last longer as a result.

RO-Man do an auto flush valve which flushes a few seconds every minute,.. very cheap too. If I'd invested any real money on my RO I'd defo get one.

just for now, alan or anyone, how exactly do you flush a merlin just using the ports?
