Leisure battery/Deep Cycle Battery/ Amperage - What does it all mean?
«

What type of battery do I need, and what amperage must it be, to run the water pump in a WFP van set-up? What difference does the amperage make?
Thanks

I think most use an 85 amp leisure battery. Any bigger and it would be a little difficult lifting it in and out of van to charge.
Also get yourself a suitable charger, even if you use a split relay charger on the van. This type of battery lasts longer if kept well charged and not let run flat.

I use 100 amph leisure batteries
with a smart charger
they get charged up every couple of days
never had a problem.
Used to charge them via split charge relays
and normal car type battery charger and had quite a few probs.
Cleaning spot sell the chargers around £40
Leisure battery from any decent camping shop £50-£80

any deep cycle battery will do
the ah rating means amp hours
the higher the ah the longer the battery will power the pump
generally speaking deep cycle batteries need regular charging to prolong life and make them work more efficient
i use 20ah wheelchair batteries
easy to carry, will run pump for over 12 hours
i charge it every night for min 12 hrs on trickle charge
slow charge at low amps is best
