Sorry another YP thread!!
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:44:12 pm »
My Yellow Pages rep will soon (next month) be calling for my advert renewal..... Last year I paid list price.

Is the price negotiable ?? Does it depend on your rep??

Can you get a better deal if you take Yell.com too??

What is the best way to negotiate a discount??

As most of my business comes from the yellow pages telling them where to go isn't an option.

Thanks Donato.

I will be watching this thread with interest, i have tried to get discounts before and get no where. They will give discount if you advertise in a second directory in another area.

Try for free art work and may be free colour upgrade BUT.... don't book straight away you do have to play cat and mouse, ask them when they are closing the book on inserts so that you get in at the last minute let the rep call you loads of times.

I seem to be getting little response now from Yellow Pages but a few (and just a few) from yell.com

Thomsons even worse.

My ad this year cost £2400 but it's been very poor, I do make profit on it but because years ago I made very good money from it I'm loathed to let go.....until now!

Where do you spend the bulk of your marketing then Joe?

What works for you?

www. is the way forward, expensive YP ads deliver low returns for us, that £2500 would pay for a very nice
site.

Over the years I have spent thousands on advertising (probably like most of us) and still looking for the ONE that works.
Having said that, long ago I came to the conclusin there isnt ONE that works.
Some have worked better then others at certain times then a switch round - all out of my control.

Certainly at this point in time directories are doing worse then ever. This year I am cutting right back with YP and Thomsons, just keep going with BT Phone Book a bit longer.

I understand Spencer and some others have v.good results from the Internet.
I now get more calls from potentials saying they got me from the internet so this is pleasing to me.

I have never done professional leaflets before, but just took delivery of a batch from DP and giving that a go, and trying delivering myself (so I know thay are done). Be some time before I can see what the result is.

Hi Guys

I still can't believe that they wanted to increase my price even though everyone knows the directory is in decline, more for less doesn't add up in my book.

To make the web succeed you need to be on lots of sites, Shaun is seeing this.

Cheers
