wear and tear to bone joints
« on: June 19, 2008, 10:00:36 pm »
i was thinking today about the wear and tear on our arm bones and  joints, if we where to count every moving action we made, ad that up in a year, then look at it in 10 years time, now that is a lot of wear and tear on the bone joint, i can see a lot of shoulder joint operations in the near future, not trying to put anyone of, but iv had a few problems, and i have been going at it 7 years   :'(

i have had to get treatment on my right shoulder, it lasts about a year or so then comes back, and it is realy painful, believe it or not my doctor prescribed ibuprpen  :o he said any sign of pain stop work for a few days, as those tablets are inflamitorys, they do work,

i even thought that carbon poles would reduce this as the are much lighter, but thinking about it, you still have to make the same movements  while using the pole,

At one time i weight trained 4 times a week. The best thing for joints is 2 table spoons of cod liver oil a day if you can stomach it  :)

My elbow has been giving me grief again, My daughter is a physio and gave me a support for it, that certainly helps. This support is not elasticated, it's a kind of pad that looks like a mini weight lifting belt that fastens with Velcro, you place the widest part over the painful area.
I also have pain just below the shoulder blades, this goes when I have a day off, or over the weekend.

She recommended the same tablets as Jouks doctor.

I've got floating cartilage or something in my elbow from weight training.  Best way to knacker your joints I reckon.  Seen a chaps knee shoot accross the room when deadlifting, well 3 inches anyway.  :o

cant remember the name of this treatment i got, it was a little mic looking thing with ultra sound i think, sound vibrates through to the muscles and gives them a good shaking,  :o  its the only way they heal fast,

But you have to take it long term, yes it does work after 6 weeks.

For any pains, buy your self a TENS unit, you can wear this during the day.

dont think its movement that does the damage its weight and movement and climbing a ladder and twirling a squeegie isnt heavey. but heaving a pole up and down all day is what can cause damage

jeff that would help the pain, but it wont cure it, my doctor said if i dont rest for 2 weeks with the medication, i would do a lot worse damage, that was a good few months back that happened to me, and it did get better,

ibuprpen  only helps the pain and doesn't cure the problem  ;D ;D ;D

I don't like taking tablets, but a TENS unit can be kept in the gove box and put into action if you get a pain at work and you may be miles away from a shop so no tablets until you get to the nearest shop.

Have a read about a TENS Unit.
