Chemicals - Use by date/lose effectiveness?
« on: June 18, 2008, 02:41:17 pm »
After tidying up my store I noticed I still had some chemicals I inherited when I bought some equipment 18 + months ago.
Most have been opened but are 3/4 full, mainly Prochem 5litre containers.
Cannot see any dates, etc on them and was just wondering if they are worth keeping?
Do they lose their effectiveness over time?
If so, approximately how long?

Related to the above. Moving our lounge around last weekend we found a large coffee stain between 2 armchairs under a small side table. Transpired one of our kids knocked a cup over some weeks ago, mopped it up as best they could and decided not to say anything,  >:(, gotta love em!

Had a spare hour yesterday so tried to clean it using some browning prescription (the old stuff 18+ months old), after 3 attempts it was much better but not completely gone.
Was gonna try with some fresher stuff but is the stain too old and now set?
Anyone been successful in removing weeks old coffee stains from light beige 80/20 wool mix?

Thanks

John Kelly

Some chemicals deteriorate over time however for specifics you would have to ask the manufacturers. Personally I would not use anything over 12 months old.
Sodium Metabisulphite may remove the remainder of your stain, Spray n Go, Shift Etc.
