When you reel in use a damp cloth to hold the hose with, and put a protecta ball on the end of the minibore.

I just use latex disposable gloves £5 for 100, and I use and old towel to hold the hose when I reel in, keeps it nice and clean.

I use sailing gloves that are designed for rope handling. They are tough, but lightweight and really save your hands.
