Working on a Job today and passed the hose up to my daughter over the railings of a balcony were access was via a set of winding steps, Shell my daughter did and finished the windows and asked me to catch the tap end of the hose, I told her just to drop it as the ball would stop it getting damaged, WRONG! the tap handle complete with its insides shot off, the tap became useless.

Lucky for me, we were at a relative of Shell's in-laws, the custy was an engineer by trade and has one huge workshop, he took it on himself to repair the tap for us.

A short while later he came out and gave me the end of my hose back with a brand new tap fitted, I took a look at the tap and though WoW! that's loads better than the original one it was much smaller and less intrusive.

I asked him were you get this type of tap from and he said there from a place were he buys his engineering bits from, I put in an order today for him to get me a few, all my taps are now being changed over to this type of tap.
If you notice its a tiny bit larger than the hose its self, so less chance of snagging on anything.

Yes it is similar, I notice that one, is a guest type fitting though? do you do anything like the one I showed? as its threaded to put our fittings on.
I like the size of the tap as there is a lesser chance of any snagging, so if you do them that size and threaded I'll put my name down for some spares..

I think we were luck that he was relative to my daugher (in-laws)

I thinks it sounds like alex's problem may cost more than the price of a new tap, Hope its not a major problem and he gets home safely.

That`s the trouble with those new bentleys they can play up a bit,has he gone to get the new brush lol.

Fortunately the only thing wrong with the vehicle was a snapped drive belt which knocked out the alternator and water pump. Limped it to my local garage and hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow. It is a 12 year old Renault savannah which has served me very well for many years and has cost virtually nothing to run over the years I have had it, so it really does not owe me anything. Mrs A. says that I have to keep it until it dies though!

Jeff, we can get exactly the same taps as the one that your customer has fitted for you. They come in several versions:

Female to female BSPP screw thread (1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2")
BSPT Male to BSPP female screw thread (1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4")
BSPP Male to BSPP female screw thread (1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and also male 1/4" to female 1/8")
BSPP Male to male screw thread (1/8", 1/8" to 1/4", 1/4", 3/8" to 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" to 3/8", 1/2")

They are not that cheap though at about £9-10 each.

Looks like you have the same fittings as me .

How come you dont put the female end on the main hose and the male on the pole hose, then just pop the connection when not using and the water will automatically stop, ah but you can leave it connected and just use the tap.OK

I would recommend the tap to anyone just because of there size, nothing worse than having a big chuncky tap stuck on the end, they look very well made so I hope will last a fair old time.
I have already asked my custy to get me another 6 and I don't even know what price they are   

I hope you get your car sorted and as the old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it  yours has clearly broken  so you better get it fixed

I have always had the tap on the end of the hose, I think it just makes life easier, well for me it does.
I used to fill my backpack up with it (took a life time lol) its also easy to change poles when I need to.
