help with ro machine please
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:46:54 pm »
hi guys i have had a 200gpd ro machine from pure freedom with a di canister and after only 2 1/2 months of using it i find that my water reading was getting above the 8ppm reading, now i did a lot of experiments and found that my ro machine was producing 69ppm before going into the di vessel, so very kindly pure freedom replaced the ro but not the di canister, so there i have a brand new ro and flushed it out for 2 hrs and put some new resin (from cleaning spot £77 for 25 litres)into the di canister. ran everything and took a reading 0ppm wow i was actually producing pure water. that was at 1pm sat afternoon, went to bed and did a reading at 9am sunday morning and reading was now 3ppm so that is 20hrs ro had been on but the reading went from 0 to 3 in 20 hrs if this normal guys or is there a problem somewhere please help !!!!!. ok my water reading from the tap is an ugly 340ppm when i read the eading from the new ro machine before going through the di it read 15ppm and in the morning at 9am it read 12ppm so ro seems to be working fine. HELP !!!!!

Your tap water reading is far to high for that RO unit,i would get a 40x40 with 2 pre filters if i were you to get the water reading right down before resin.

like he said, i have a 300 gpd and its woeful tap is 340 and 40 out of ro. pure freedom are sending new membraines foc but me thinks a 40 40 is the answer also. but will try the new menbrainse and then try and do a deal with pure freedom and get a 4040 if not happy.

A good RO will get your water down to between 2-5 after RO with using more waste on a 40x40.

I have a 300gpd unit from Pure freedom that has been in use since beginning of october last year. I've had no probs with it. Tap water reading is around 400 all the time. After RO its between 17-20 and after DI it's 000. I change the resin canister about every 5 weeks. I did have one dodgy DI canister recently that wouldn't get the reading below 001 the entire time it was on. But since I clean wndows with a reading of up to 005 with no probs I just let it be. When it expired I changed it for a new one and it went straight down to 000.

However it does produce water relatively slowly (though fast enough for my usage) and at a rate of 50/50 pure to waste this weather. More waste in the winter.

ok ill have my say on this.
my tap water is 499 and 20/25 out of filters then 000 out of di can,
because my water is so hard i have to change my resin every 750/1000 litres,
i have a 25litre bag of resin from last july and still using it.
thought this might give you some insight as to how quick resin can be spent.
hope it helps
oh and i run a 300gpd ro unit, 1000 litres in 30 hours, plenty enough for what i use.

Hi Haydn,

I was recently wondering about re-filling the DI cartridges that come with the pure freedom RO units. Do I understand from your post that this is what you are doing? I was concerned in particular about the rubber 'O' seals and wheather they would re-seal once used.

hi mark
you wont believe this but i have been using the same cartridge for a year now and same filters and im still getting 000 unless my tds meter is telling me lies,
i clean the sponges and cartridge out and run the system for 2 mins before putting it in the tank,
not had a complaint yet.

Thanks Haydn,

It's got to be more cost effective than keep buying new canisters and throwing them away. Looks like I'll be buying some resin soon.
