LPG Conversion

Hi everyone,

Its been a while since I have been on here but crap weather and rising petrol costs have made me think:

A) Can we convert our ProChem Blazer XL to LPG?
B) If so where do I go and roughly what are the costs, I may well get our Transit done at the same time.

I am in Luton but anyone know of anywhere fairly local ( Herts, Beds, Bucks) I would appreciate it.

Hi Dave,
             I've converted my Truckmounts myself, I bought the kits from a company called edge technology power ltd. in crewe, the kits for mine are £188 with vat and postage. they only took a couple of hours to fit too! I just checked the website and they do briggs converions too.

Hi Dave,
             Basically you take the air filter housing off, place a spacer(which has the gas pipe connected to it)and runs to a gas regulator which in turn connects to your gas supply.then put the air filter housing and filter back on using longer bolts(which they supply). then disconnect the fuel solonoid and run the feed wire to centre spade on the three way switch(which they supply also), then connect a wire from the switch on either top or bottom spade back to the solonoid, the spade you have left run to the gas solonoid on the regulator(make sure the regulator has a good earth) that way you can switch between gas or petrol as you require. The centre of the switch will be off position, and the other 2 positions will either be gas or petrol depending on where you choose to connect the gas and petrol solonoids. I just make sure I don't run out of gas though as I'm only paying 55p a litre now.

I was dead chuffed with myself the firast time I did an oil change on the Truck Mount. Not aure if this is the next step, although I could rope my Dad in if he feels confident.

You dont store it, you just fill up at a service station that has it, unless using bottled gas.

Edge will supply AND fit the LPG kit for you for a total of £320 inc vat

But this is using bottled gas.  Its a lot extra for a tank and external fill  >:(

If you use the bottled gas does this work out more expensive then filling up an onboard gas tank?

Most of the conversion kits are for generators that run at constant speed, proper tuck mount conversion are a little more complex. All you require is available at Tinley Tech , Bourne, Cambridgeshire.
Or you could buy my van and machine already done!

Hi Joe,
          I just use a 47k gas bottle and that holds about 73 litres and I now pay £40 for a bottle and it works out at about .55p a litre so If you have the space in the van it is more cost effective to use a gas bottle than pay a couple of hundred £'s for a gas tank and maybe save a few pennies a litre, it would take forever to recoup the cost of the tank.                                                                                                                                                                              The kits I have are not designed only to run at a constant speed at all, they are fully controllable by using the throttle just as you would when using petrol.each kit is designed for a specific engine and is a proper kit, there is no need for anything more complicated. 
                                                                                                                                                                                     Quite a few people think you have to start the engine on petrol and then switch over to to gas when running but this really isn't the case you can start and run on gas just as you can on petrol.

Been to the websitte of Edge Technology and the kit for my B&S 18hp Vanguard engine is about £145 inc VAT - dont seem a bad price for a cleaner greener engine and cheaper fuel as the big bonus.

          you will probably find it will cost a little bit more because you will need the remote start type for a truckmount, mine was 188 all in with vat and postage, they will explain it to you when you ring them.

If you already have insurance to cover both van and TM there shouldnt be any problem, there wasnt with mine, but you have to inform them. You should also inform your insuance company that covers yor van, if you have any TM installed, LPG or other, even if you dont want cover extended for the TM. It is classed as a conversion and your van wont be covered if you dont inform them.
