Nice to see a return to some good old-fashioned bickering!

:)

This thread has been one of the best I have ever read - everyone should read it. That's not saying the Harris pole is the best, it might be depepending on who you are, just that the thread is a good un as it's so imformitive.

I agree  :) Some may feel the Harris pole is the best, some, like me, feel that it looks cheap and nasty. But so what, we're all different, have different thoughts and views otherwise there would only be 1 pole supplier, 1 method etc etc.
You haven't been here for a whiles, have you Mick?  Last march in fact.
This March in fact :-\

I clicked charlote. I was impressed with your site. Though that of all the excellent pages, the home page wasn't quite up to the standard of the others.

Thanks. Its being revamped soon as we've expanded and its quite dated now, also half our business is office cleaning and we haven't advertised that yet.

If I was using a £400 pole, I would always be worrying about it, a piece of kit like that needs taking care of, what would you rather put into the hands of a new starter? A £400 pole or a Harris?
The Harris pole maybe cheap and cheerful, but it gets the majority of jobs done with equal efficiency, when I first bought mine I looked on it as a disposable pole if you like, but seven months on I am still using it daily.
The Harris pole is like buying a Bic razor, then finding out you get a hundred shaves out of it, It's no Mach 3, but your face is just as smooth.

I agree with those comment dai

Shell my daughter was using my extel pole and at nearly £500 its no toy, it was however to heavy for her, so I bought her the Harris pole and covered it in heat shrink to match the company colour, Now she loves the pole and can't see a reason to spend another £5-600 on a new pole that you would have to treat like a baby incase you dropped or stood on it.

Drop a Harris pole and break it, shoot down B&Q buy a new one and your back in business within the hour, try doing that with a expensive pole.

Did you add the unger number 5 extension you ordered to your harris pole if so what it like working with it now.

And also what clamps did you use for the number 5 section

Paul,l the Harris base section is 1mm thinner than the Unger no 4 section, Jeff Brimble reckons it will tighten up Ok, I haven't tried it yet but will. You will need to cut the black handle off the Harris though.

Hi Paul, yes I did order an unger no5 section, but I haven't got round to fitting it onto my harris pole yet, it looks like it will fit nicely though, I will let you know how it goes once I have fitted it. :)

Another member posted that if you really heat up the alu the glue that holds the black base cap comes loose and you can pull it off instead of using long stemmed screw drivers to lever the two apart. Yep the  Unger fits but its a tad longer.

The harris pole fits perfect into the third section of a powerpole.

it was me who has done this, heating the base section with a heat gun, and also if you heat the screw  threaded clamps, they can be removed as well. just a note of caution though, the section of pole inside has plastic guides at the bottom of each section so remember to extend the pole when heating the bottom of the outer one.

The Harris top section is the same inside diameter as the unger no 2 section, and as groudhog said, a six inch length of Unger no 1 fits inside perfectly. I pop riveted the six inch section in place.
You then take an unger angle or cone adaptor, place it next to the six inch section and mark the section where the spring lugs are. you then drill a 6mm hole through at this point, presto your Harris will now take any Unger adaptor.
There is a way of using the Harris as it comes.
Buy a Stanley paint pad and handle and throw the pad away. This handle will make the best swivel you have ever used and fits onto the Harris cone.
On first examination, the Stanley handle swivels up and down, so would be useless, but look again and you will see a little Phillips screw, remove this and the handle will turn round, turn it 90 degrees and drill a small hole and reinsert the screw. depending on what brush you are using, you will have to cut the pad holder to fit, cut off the part of the brush that the handle screws into, and attach the pad holder with small bolts or self tappers.
You are left with a brush with a swivel that can be locked in any position, and the angle is just right for most jobs.
It also fits perfectly on the Harris pole.
And Ground hog, If you used Algarde silicone hose on the outside of your pole, you can fold it or trap it against the side of your pole, this will stop the flow any time you like, I have a small piece of hose tied to my pole with a small bungy band that girls tie their hair up with. I just fold the Algarde hose and slip it into this piece of hose.
This turns off the flow if you leave your pole.

Hi Matty, this quote from Dai tells you everything you need to know I believe, hope it helps mate. Any problems, then let me know and I will try to help the best I can.  :)

I fitted the Unger no 5 section today, with the  Unger no 1 section, the pole laid out measured 31ft 3 ins.
This pole is a lot more ridged than the old Unger teleplus, so with me on the end of it I can get to 37ft.
