80/90 ltrs in 2 days
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:11:30 pm »
just set u my r/o static system (100 gpd ) the total amount of water produced into my ibc I would say is about 80/90 ltrs after 2 days running it....any of you gentlemen got any advice as to what I may be doing wrong...the pressure gauge is fluctuating between 25 and 35 ish when in operation (although it blasts out of all the taps in my house)
the tubing for the waste that goes into the drain, I have turned the valve  more or less off so the waste is trickling out.... any advice appreciated thanks

Where did you get the ro from ?

Make shure you havent got the valve on "Backflush"

You need a booster pump

I recently got a 100gpd ro and it took forever to fill a 120 litre water butt. But perhaps there is a breaking in period, because the water butt is full after about 15 hours now. I bought a booster pump, but haven't fitted it yet.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

I used to use a 300GPD RO with tap pressure of 40PSI which would make around 12 literes per hour without a booster pump.

80/90 liters per 2 days is incredibly low.

You need a booster pump mate, 25-35 PSI is too low to do anything with.

I have my merlin running from just tap pressure (reads 20 / 30 on guage), and it fills a 220ltr water butt in 3 hours.

Something is wrong with your setup m8.  Check everything.  Disconnect it all, dissasemble, reassemble and reconnect.  Probably something dead simple.  Check hoses aint kinked

thats what Im thinking mate as my tap pressure is exellent ....just about to get onto phone to the r/o man...latest amount of pure water produced I,d say is 180 ltrs in almost 5 days(not even enough for a bath....for the dog)

your ro is to small mate upgrade it to a 200/300 gpd then you will be fine , i use a 200 without booster pump and get 45 ltrs per hour if i turn the booster pump on i only get 10 ltrs extra per hour .

FAO DAVE...can,t get through to them anyway ...but within the kit I got we broke into the cold water feed with a little pin clamp type thing....just wondering if it needs a proper tap on it thus making a bigger hole to improve the pressure......

Thats yer problem, you should only backflush for about 5 to 10 Mins everyday turn the blue numpty the other way and the water should come out a bit quicker

thats the same tap as i use mate , its your unit thats too small upgrade it would cost around £30 to do the 100 gpd units are a waste of time . to check if its stuck on backflush theres a blue tap at the side of that should be a sticker showing the tap position for backflush and production just check that but even if its on backflush and you turned it to production there wont be much diffrance , the units too small for what you need .

IMO you are using a domestic water RO that again imo is not suitable for window cleaning day in day out wfp.

I have a 4040, because i need alot of water daily, also i hate waiting for thing and the water you are producing I would have binned it the second day.

upgrade your ro to 300gpd, if money is no problem get a 4040 I am making over 200 litres an hour, to me time is money and time is something i dont seem to have enough of.

i USED THE CUT INTO PIPE TAP MYSELF, I changed it as wqater was not flowing out of it.

easy to change cut pipe three way connector add a pipe use same tap job done.

ordered a self cutting tap from r/o man and a reducing valve that takes the tubing ...going to see if that improves the pressure and production...if not I will upgrade the system thanks gents!

turn your waste water tap back on and you flow should improve , my first r/o was a 50gpd and it filled a 200ltr tank in about 18hrs, hope this helps.
