i fill a 300ltr tank at home.a couple of times this wk the hose has come off so there has been water flowing out.most of it has been going against my neighboroughs wall and into his garden..ive tightened the hose up and showed him the problem.he seemed ok with it,but this is the neighborough that has fell out with every1 on our street,and knows everyones buissness.i wouldnt put it past him to ring the water board and complain about wasting water.if he did,can they force you to go on a water meter.

If the water usage is purely for domestic purposes then I would say no.

But for commercial use I reckon they could.

i would of thought the water board can make you do what ever they want. its there water and they decide if they surply to you or not im affrade.

at the moment the goverment are pushing for every property in the uk to be on a meter to stop wastage.

i have read that you have to infrom the water board if you are using an ro system as they use up alot of water?

must get around to doing that some day......

If you are using water for business I am think you will be told to go on a water meter, I got a visit from them and I had a water meter installed before I changed to wfp :
Some busy body that did not have there facts straight.

If you are a business then yes you will be expected to go on a meter. If they do make you you can always recyle bath water and any waste water sounds like hasstle but you would be entyitled to a rebate , I will be doing this . Also if you are a business and on a meter they won't be able to stop you working wfp when we have a drought

so.wat sort of bills do u get if u go on meter.im trolley and use 10 25ltr tubs a day.my wife use s more than that just for her baths.

They can`t,you go on a meter in the first place if you don`t use much as it will save you money.On new properties they all have meters now.

if you dont already have a meter then the water company cant make you have one

I'm sorry I don't know, all I can say is I have a 500lt tank and its always overflowing soon after a fair rain.  
In the winter nearly always full  
I am just in the process of purchasing two 1000lt ibc tanks to catch it all!

Keeping it clean is the key use filter/sieve to stop muck going into tank!

Summer so far has emptied my tanks (but no problems thats what the ro's for)

I worked for Anglian Water in " metering" for seven years before redundancy pushed me into becoming a Wc. I can asure you that they very much can put any business on a water meter and will actively pursue any business that is deemed to use water within its business process, ie hairdressers etc. We definately fall into that category. You'd be surprised just how much "power" the water companys have with the water bye laws.

I'm inclined to agree with Nick. But when all's said and done if you're not sure why not just phone the water company and ask them?
