Turbo Lance vs Flat Surface Cleaner
« on: May 14, 2008, 09:14:46 am »
I have just finished a job and I found that I much preffered the Turbo Lance over the Flat Surface Cleaner as I think it was quicker and did a better job.

Just wondering what you guys thought ?

to be honest my whirlawayhas been in the garage for ages, i use a turbo on all block paving jobs as it takes a while using the whirl away as it does not remove all the tough weeds and grass, it seems quicker to use a turbo all over the job on domestic jobs.

I am converting an old wirlaway to house two turbo nossels, fitting bigger casters foam filled ones so no punctures .This will give the hight for a good spray pattern.

Got both but find the 300mm flat surface cleaner to be faster than the turbo, though the Turbo is good for edges.

I got mine from a place in Bolton I think they are called Steamcleaners uk but most places will have them and mine is a quick connect lance type not just a nozzle

I couldn`t live without my turbo nozzle and am getting another incase i lose this one,i have found the whirlaway fsc a big dissappointment and end up going over job with turbo nozzle,i just get it out to impress the neighbours at a job now or to do flags.

I use a mosmatic fsc and find it gives superb results, always use the turbo for the rinse after and wouldnt be without it.  I honestly don't understand how anyone could find the turbo faster than a fsc, perhaps your fsc and pwashers are'nt suited? ???

I got mine together off merrill fox so i think they would know if they were suited, the fsc doesn`t take all the moss from inbetween joints,i have even changed my nozzles and it still doesn`t.The fsc gives a nice even clean to the top of block and is great on flags but you would be lost without turbo nozzle,if i was starting up and short of cash the turbo nozzle would come first by a mile.

There is definately something not right there.  It should fetch the moss out and small weeds too.
Have you got a pressure guage on the pump?
If not, it might be worth getting one to check it is pumping out at the right rate.

I find my fsc does a good job and I spot clean the stubborn weeds and lichen with the turbo

what i want is a fsc that can clean right up to edges, ie walls .   As with whirlaway you end up with about 2 inches that need going over withthe lance.  I do have a small mosmatic machine that isnt on wheels that gets closer but I guess I am just getting lazy and looking for ways to cut time off the jobs.   ;)

Will post pics and spec when got it sorted ,strugling with getting the right pitch on nozzels at moment so that the bar spins fast enough.
With the hight of large casters and the coning affect of the turbo nozzels it seems that it does clean closer to the edges.

allyear long i have been using just a turbo as the whirlaway takes ages on block paving,i have a 20 inch whirlaway and a tech clean powertech 250 13 hp engine running it.  if you go over the blockpaving with the fsc you then have to go over the whole lot with the turbo to remove the tough grass and weeds and moss so its quicker to use a turbo on the whole job,  its different on flags i would use the whirlaway then all over, but i only use the whirlaway on jobs over 100 sq m. i use the turbo on small jobs and a smaller machine with 6hp.

There is definately something wrong there drive surgeon...

You should only have to use a lance (or turbo nozzle if that is your preference) to do the edges and clean down... the wirlaway should do the rest.

Sounds like your nozzles are not matched with your pump to me (it doesn't matter what engine you have, its the pump attached to it that counts).

Check with the supplier and make sure you are working with the right spec nozzles.

I agree with andy fsc should get most of any job done ,Valves if worn or the unloader valve could make a differance if not working 100%,.
Had a small leak on the inlet side of the pump it was drawing in air what a differance on pressure that makes.
