Swings and Roundabouts.....
« on: January 14, 2005, 05:51:28 pm »
I lost an old customer today (res) who couldn't quite get into me using a WFP to clean his windows...thought it was some kind of con...however, his neighbours each side, came out and viewed the process, and after a talk and a leaflet on the process, decided they wanted it....funny old world really aint it ?....win some , lose some I guess...

What was his beef? Too fast? Too wet? Too (insert daft excuse from daft customer?)
Still two in and one out isn't a bad ratio!
It's a game of three halves!

could't seem to grasp the concept of pure water.....thought it was 'all a load of baloney'.....and I'm not paying you to  'P*ss up the windows'.....oh well, he was old and probably staid in his way's.......they come, they go.....next....

I use ladders, though plan to be a WFP in the future.

However, there is only one small area where a guy who uses WFP and I cross.  I've had three of his customers approach me over the past couple of months, asking me to do their windows.

At first I thought it must be Ian Giles (from this site), so said no and explained the benifits of WFP.  But after to speaking to Ian, found it wasn't him - so have taken them on (the mercenary git I am).

Anyway, the third one asked me today.  I asked what the problem was with his old window cleaner and he said, "He uses a pole with soft water or something, but when they dry, they're all covered in runs".

What's he doing wrong?

Oh  by the way, I charge more than him.  I know this because one of his ex-customers told me how much he charged!

Does that make poaching other WC customers okay?

Hi Windows_Chepstow - I had a similar experience with some customers with old frames  they switched to me despite higher price because the local water fed pole user sprayed water through their ill-fitting sash georgian windows and under their doors. (Old properties in Aust/Olveston just across the old Severn bridge from you!)

I'm not put off a wfp though - horses for courses and strings to bows - just have to use the right method in the right place IMHO

WFP = Weapon of Fast Production
Squeegee and bucket -  I won't quite chuck it  ;D
