« on: May 08, 2008, 08:58:37 am »
Hi there, got a carpet job to to in a house that is mostly fitted with loop-pile carpets. The Hall, stairs and landing have multi-level loop-pile...anything to take extra care with when doing these type of carpets?   cheers klinger

Sorry you haven't had a response to your carpet cleaning question on this carpet cleaning forum so I will try to help although I'm no expert.

I haven't had any probs, but was told on a course that you really need to prevac these carpet thoroughly because they trap more dirt. If it's got diffent level of pile I would use a sebo and MS but a chem.

Is it wool?

Thanks Mike, yes they are wool. Was going to use pureclean or prespray gold, I was a bit more concerned about the agitation fuzzing the pile, I use a sebo duo, do you think it,ll be ok?

Sorry

Crucial typo ;D I meant I wouldn't use MS and a sebo because I find you miss bits that need agitating. I'd go with PSG myself and an acid rinse.

I think you just have to be sensible I haven't had any fuzzing I think strong chems could cause probs too.

Hi Klinger

During your inspection, look VERY CAREFULLY for signs of pilling, especially in TV shuffle and traffic areas. Bring it to the customers attention before you start.  When cleaned, it will be more noticeable.

Unless you have very soft brushes, mechanical agitation may be too aggressive. So detergent may be preferable over microsplitting. Make a judgement.

Use a paper and pencil to find the pile direction. It may be at 45 degrees!  Agitate in this direction only whether mechanical or brush.

If there is potential with this carpet for cellulosic browning, use an acidic rinse (preferably in-tank as it does not then affect drying time).

Apart from this general advice, any specific issues may need to be addressed individually.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
