Worst bit is cleaning ( more like removing the bottom of a garden from the windows ) and noticing the dishes in the sink ( cold water with fat floating on the top )  Think it is a good idea to charge double on first cleans  ::)

I trust my gut instincts 100%. When I've completed a job for a customer I really don't trust, I mark their cards so to speak and make sure I'll never do a second job unless I'm paid from the 1st job.

gut instint or not, anyone that does not pay for the first does not get a second anyway, but does get a late payment fee ;)

I am quite fortunate that in past 3 months have had only 2 late payers , and I called to the home and got full payment !   when I have cleaned windows I leave a slip which says that I need to recieve payment within 7 days !

that does sound a little harsh to me and for me it doesn't matter if they take weeks as long as they keep coming, everyone's different it takes me ages to pay bills not that I cant but i just don't get around to it and definitely if it said within 48hrs that would get up my nose Sorry WW

Gut instinct with one customer, called on them wednesday, everytime he looks at the window and either says, yes or no, this time was a no, second time he said no, I got fed up with it, and was about to say something, then he said, oh go on then, do them.

Yes, you do develop a gut instnct about some customers but often its the ones you least expect that suprise you.

I have given up trying to fathom out what goes on in their little minds.

I get gut instincts but they can sometimes be wrong.  Sometimes a customer's attitude is because of how they've been treated by previous W/Cs.  When they start to realise that they've stumbled across the genuine article, they often change.  Bear in mind that most people who start window cleaning don't persevere with it.  Of the ones who pack up, most will just stop calling and not let the customer know.  So, scepticism is understandable initially.

I give people 2 weeks to pay then give a gentle reminder:

"Oi...you've had the service now how about stumping up before I come round to ya wiv me mates."

Works every time ;D

You've made the proverbial rod for your back.  Why do you allow him to decide if he wants it or not?  Each time he says "no" is a wasted visit and a loss to you as you should be somewhere else earning money.

All my quotes are based on a fixed agreed cycle.  If they don't want it they're in breach of the agreement - I point this out and if they do it a second time I cancel.

I have some like that, one couple is really lovely but the insides are filthy, you could take a paint scraper to the kitchen window. Still, ours is not to reason why.

I had one who asked for my services my gut instinct was that he was ok, second clean he asks for me to "just wash the facia whist your there" like a fool and liking the guy i did it for him for no extra charge (last job of the day) he was so impressed that he gave me his parents house too. Next clean it's "havn't got any money mate come back next time"
Dropped him like a stone - still do his parents though.
