some customers!
« on: April 11, 2008, 05:27:06 pm »
Just finished a last minute gutter clean, took me an hour and a half and the windows were filthy. I thought i'm bound to pick this one up as a regular window clean. Lady comes out and asks if i've finished so i tell her i'll just tidy up her windows and i'll be off. So she pays me while i'm scrubbing the glass "oh we've got a windowcleaner but he doesn't do frames or gutters or soffits, bye.  ::)
So he must be a lazy bar-steward glass cleaner only.

Theres loads of them saw a bloke round near me the other day doing windows and the frames where black, do them on 1st clean charge extra then wipe over once a month, think it makes you look bad leaving them like that, any way were called window cleaners not glass pane cleaners.

Not I 100% agree. If I break somebodies window I've broken the glass...not the frame as well.

But you are right, a quick wipe over the frames takes 10 seconds...if they're UPVC. Old flaking frames?...Nah!

Many people love their frames to be clean, they aren't in the house all the time.

The point i was trying to make (but failed) was that this person is happy to use a windowcleaner who won't wipe her gutters clean, won't wipe the facias down etc. why not? He's up a ladder anyway so why not take the job on? Just seems daft to employ another cleaner (me) just for those jobs then revert back to their regular cleaner. If you see what i mean. :)

Mmmm unless he hasn't the time i suppose?

Are you a window cleaner, a gutter cleaner, a downpipe cleaner, a conservatory roof cleaner or a cleaner with a set of ladders  ???

There are a lot of window cleaners out there who will do nothing else but clean windows, there are also a few of us who will offer to take on extra work because we are  already halfway there with the equipment needed.

If the money is right, we'll do it  ;D

Got about 20 + gutter jobs and several con roof jobs lined up waiting to be done, it's just a matter of getting the time to do them. :P

I never use to bother cleaning gutters/soffitts/fascias because I was always too busy cleaning windows on a regular basis. I concentrated on picking up a round full of regular window cleaning customers so I never had the time to do guttering, etc unless it was raining and the customer was prepared to wait for a rainy day so I could clean guttering, etc.
Guttering would be once a year if lucky where as windows are monthly/bi-monthly, etc so concentrated on developing a full round of regular work 1st.
Now I'll empty guttering safely from the ground and pressure wash soffitts & fascias also safely from the ground as there is no need to use ladders and can make it more worthwhile as a one off job.

I never turn down good work, be it gutters or windows, roffs ect.
Business is business at the end of the day they are fitted in as an when and a bonus to turn over IMO

Thanks chaps, i was under the impression that all your trad cleaners would be expected to take this kind of work on. Thinking about it, if they travel in from another town they are probably sticking to their rounds pretty much and would not have time to set aside for add ons.
It's all coming clear now.
