Grafitti Removal Help Needed
« on: December 30, 2004, 04:25:36 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I've just stumbled across this site and it's exactly what I've been looking for.  Right now I need a bit of advice...

We clean a housing association block of flats that have only just been built. Lo and behold it took less than a week for one wall to be totally covered in graffitti! The wall is about 7ft high by 20ft long and the grafitti seems to all be done with spray paint.  We found out that the contractors have put a sealant on the wall and were advised by them to use a product called Rocol Graffitti Control. I believe it is a pre wash aerosol and removal aerosol, both cans costing around £20 each - unbelivably expensive!

Does anyone know if this stuff is any good?  How do you apply it?  Is there another product out there that makes the job easier, maybe with the use of a jet spray?

Any advice would be great.

Cheers,
Darren.

Ps. This is the first job we've ever had for graffitti removal and as such don't really know what price we should charge... Anyone able to point me towards a good price?

Thanks again.
Darren.

Darren,

go to www.tensid.com and seek their specialist advice, they sell many types of graffitti remover, they will send you free small samples to test if you convince them that you will buy from them in the future!

Thanks for that Keith.  I've looked at their website and tried to obtain the price list but they require you to register with them first; no doubt so they can bombard my inbox with "Special Offers".  ::)  I'll set a a new email account I think, just for this type of thing. Anyhow, I'll give them a call after New Years and see what they say about removing the graffitti from already protected walls (they don't mention this on their site).

Thanks again,

Darren.

Darren,

Ive dealt with `Tensid` before and have never had any bother with advertising emails from them, but as you said its a good idea just in-case to set up another email account for this purpose through your ISP.

Also have a look at www.stripperspaintremovers.com, i don`t think it gives the prices of their products on its website, but it tells you how to remove graffiti with the right products!

hi there,

wow, look at the rocol site, a 400ml container has a coverage of 2 metre square.

therefore my next question would be can you not buy it in a wholesale pack.  and can you not buy it then put it through jet wash.

the other thing is that the products are solvent based.  ideally you want a water based product.

costings.

ring rocol and find out how long they expect 1m2 takes to clean.

then materials plus labour plus overun equals cost then add profit.  and dont undersell yourself.  as this couls be a nice little earner for you and opens the way for more work

regards

I have know Brian (MD) of Tensid very well (20 years) they are an excellent company and will offer advice and generally assist wherever possible (don’t worry they are not spammers).

You say the contractors put a sealant on the wall?? could this be a sacrificial coating, if so this is designed to come off with washing and will need replacing when clean.

You might need some more info from the contractors re the products used, either way Tensid will help if you get stuck.

hi there,

alex,

just had a quick look at your website, pretty good well done.

two points.

window cleaning

should be 'uniformed' as apposed to 'unformed'

also the hyperlink buttons for 'more info' could do with being a little more proud.

hope you take this as helpful and in no other way.

I am still thinking of putting a simple website together, but at the moment we have more than enough work, but as they say foward plan all the time

regards

Hi Guys, thanks for all the replies!

The management company only want me to use the Rocol products because that's what was advised by the building contractors that put the seal on the wall. (They can blame them then, no doubt).

DP:
Thanks for the vouch for Tensid - always good to have a reputably company to get advice from.

Martin:
I realise just to buy the Rocol products is going to cost a fortune but, fortunately, I know the management company very well and they are quite keen for us to at least give it a go.  You're right in saying that it could be a good little earner - providing Rocol does 'exactly what it says on the tin'.  No harm in trying.  Thanks for the costing advice.

Alex:
Thanks for the link - website looks great!

Regards,
Darren.
