How do you strip dyes from leather?
You can certainly strip finish and pigments but not dyes.

Aniline dyes do not usually require any sort of stripping and this job seems extremely over complicated and overpriced for what it is.  Much quicker and less complex methods and products are available to get fantastic results on aniline leathers.

What's all this pricing by stage stuff? What if you don't want let's say stage 3? Does that mean you can't have stage 4 because it requires stage 3 to work first.
This is a bit like us breaking our quotes down into
pre vac,
stain treatment,
overall pre treatment,
agitate,
extraction
post treatment
dressing

So Mrs Jones do you want all parts of the carpet clean or just some bits of it ;D

It makes the customer feel like you're doing a lot more if you break it down like that. I think it's a very good idea, especially if you want to charge more than the average.

But of course, it's all options or none.

Dave Lehona's principle is very similar and hes has been banging on about it for years now. It works for him and he gets massive price tickets  8)

I'd love to have gone Shaun, but I'm definitely NOT as fit as a Stradivarius, right now.

One of the problems, will be remembering what's been demo'd and discussed, so take cameras and take everyones details as you will want to talk to some of them later.

The opportunity to find so much variety of thinking / products / systems / methodology at one venue is rare......................make the most of it.

and..............................ask questions DO NOT BE SHY ABOUT ASKING QUESTIONS on virtually all of the sales and marketing courses I've been on over the past 45 years I have found nearly everyone sits on their hands..................if you want knowledge, or clarification, ask, ask, ask.

I plan to move to beautiful British Columbia in blissful semi-retirement later this year and so went on a scouting trip with my family.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Roger and his wife last week and spent a few hours talking leather !!

For several years now I have been restoring leather and teaching others how to and have tried many different products.  Roger's products are quite unique and I must say I was impressed.

Another exciting aspect to Roger's product line that he has not talked about much but which certainly caught my attention and ought to be of interest to all of you older coggers is his expertize in restoring leather clothing. So regardless of sore joints and generally becoming decrepit, you could have customers bring their leather clothing to you to be restored or have an arrangement with local dry cleaners to work with you.  I'm certainly going to have a go at this later this year - no more lugging damned heavy sofas around for me !!

ps, I saw these items of furniture up close and Roger is not kidding !

Sorry to side track from this a little but.................

Many times and also at the CCDO people have asked me some of the differences between cleaning and or teaching in the states.

There are many differences and I am not going to go into them, just one.

In the states if someone is doing well and inparticular charging more for their services then those around that person would want to be the same and try to find out how to be better and charge more.  There wouldnt be disbelief and there wouldnt be resentment.

What a shame that same attitude isnt found with people here in this trade.

As opposed to you cant do this, you cant do that, you cant possibly charge that amount.......... how about ask how someone else is doing it and not be so quick to condemn them for being successful.

If I was into cleaning leather, which I am not, I would want to be this man.

I certainly would want to emulate what he is doing so I could be as successful.

It is human nature to be negative but it baffles me why people resent others who are more higher paid for doing the same job.  Or is it the same job?

Best, Dave

P.S. Again sorry for going off subject.

I think there is a tendency to be more cynical over here (or less easily taken in)

Tall poppy syndrome prevails here and in places like Oz. It's a way of justifying your own feelings of inadequacy. It's easier than trying to emulate or surpass the performance of others.

However what we have here are camps with a firm set of beliefs that what tehy do is the 'correct' way. People die for their beliefs, even when they are blantantly skewed.

Good add on to Dave's point Mike

The UK is tiny compared to the US so its easier to dominate with a belief as the competition and the customer (being on  a smaller scale) are easier to herd by 1 or 2 dominates

And of course the consequence of this is us Brits are far less comfortable with self promotion. Yet it needn't be that way.

Again the Yanks are way ahead of the game. Just look at Roger's posts and especially Dusty Roberts. They do it yet it doesn't seem to rub people up the wrong way, unlike some UK suppliers.

Over here the best tactic seems to be low key but helpful. I think some of the more aggressive/vocal UK suppliers on here could learn a thing or two from the Yanks. Their intent is the same but the approach is very different.
