Shammy,

It's got to be grim being a window cleaner in Scotland.

I mean:

You have the worst weather; coldest too.

You need to pay the council for a window cleaner's licence.

You're customers are tight Jocks where every 50p price increase is like a dirk going through their heart.

And it can't be much fun at the top of a ladder wearing a kilt and getting laughed at by school kids walking
   past.

How do you guys cope?

Hi Shammy,

Im from Sunny Paisley where its a surprise if its NOT rainin!  Seriously though there cant be many people who could survive in this. Some weeks we are lucky if we can make 30% of whats available. I doubt if anybody in any other jobs could put up with this amount coming off their wages for the best part of 3 months. Roll on the better weather!

You guys, what stops you working, is it the wind or the rain? You must have noticed some on here clean in the rain - what stops you - the customers or yourselves not wanting to work in the rain. Are you trad or wfp?

danny I'm not too far from you (Braehead) and we always get at least 4 days a week of work.  The secret is a little bit of inside work and to work on in the rain unless its really heavy.  Too many guys get put off by a bit of rain, inform your customers that if they aren't happy with the results you will come back and clean them.  We never get asked to come back as the quality of work is always excellent.

you gotta grin and bear it

nah not really, we've got enough to keep us busy and half of our work is commercial anyway.

if I was interested in taking someone else on then yes I'd be looking at the new ones springing up but as it is 2 vans, my son, 2 staff and myself is more than enough to keep on top of.
