Trading Standards
« on: March 12, 2008, 05:09:20 pm »
Well ive heard it all now! :o

went to collect from a new customer today noticed he put a little piece of paper saying "do not clean windows again" knocked on door he paid me i asked him why he'd cancelled after 1 clean, he said he was'nt happy and hed had trading standards out, they didnt come out especially he said they were just passing and also his dad is a police officer and he came out and said they wasnt cleaned either.

By this time i was getting quite wound up i asked why he hadnt phoned me but i got the trading standards number off him that he had phoned, i spoke to 2 different departments they both literally laughed because they wouldnt come out for anything like that

The windows and the frames were spotless i checked them myself i think his problem was because they were left wet even the postman told me he is a bit of a idiot and hes just lost his job, suprise suprise  ::)

I just cant understand he didnt even refuse to pay  ???

I guess he paid because he has standards, and instead of saying I cant afford this anymore he hatched a stupid plan.

least you got paid m8  ;)

That kind of thing really bugs me,.. if someone says they can't afford it, or some similar excuse, then thats all well and good,.... but to insult my standards of work rather than be honest with me, that just makes my blood boil!!

I'm a member of a Trading Standards scheme run in the south called "Buy with confidence" and I can assure you that Trading standards do not handle matters in that way! He is lying, don't lose any sleep over it m8.

Customers often lie and use poor excuses when they want to stop the window cleaning.
A common one I find is when they say "can you leave the windows as they are being replaced" and that they will call you when they're done.

i.e.
A pub owner told me that excuse and I replied, "so you want to cancel the window cleaning".
"Oh no", he says, "I'm genuinely having the windows replaced".
"Okay, ring me when they're in" I replied, (that was 5 years ago).

I'm sometimes tempted to go in the pub and order a beer and when it comes to paying, turn round and say, "nah, I've changed my mind, put it back in the barrel".

i arrived to clean a very large detached house,... parked on the drive as usual... very rich snobby guy came out and asked me to remove van from drive as wife coming home.

i said no problem... he then said and in future leave it on the road,... ( his wife is lovely person and tells me to park on drive..even moves her car for me)...

i said not a problem....

he then said oh clean the facias too whilst you are at it....

i laughed and said , would you like me to book you in for a facia clean,

he said , no just clean them now with the windows,.. i looked, and said i cant at the moment i have to book it in, and it will be £75 if you want it doing...

he nearly choked  :D.. he said you should clean them with the windows as i pay good money   ;D..... i said if i did that with all my customers i would get 3 done in a day and earn nothing. he looked at me like dirt and said.... oh very well leave the facias but its disgusting thatyou cant simply clean them as you are going along ....

by this time i was well into cleaning the windows and furious at being spoken to like an idiot.

carried on finished the clean, he said how much... told him, he gave me the money very begrudgingly, and again warned me not to let .... "thingy" van  touch his drive again and see you next month...

i said no you wont mate , get yourself another window cleaner, i dont appreciate being spoken to like something under your shoe, and i suggest the next window cleaner you get you will treat him with a little respect..

feel sorry for his lovely wife who increased the price herself, saying she is just glad to have found someone who can get all the awkward windows and also cleans doors etc, poor lass living with a prat like that.

but i wont take that from anyone.  ::) ;)

Well done Gary! It's almost a pleasure telling these jumped up ("insert word of your choice") where to get off.

The wife will prolly beg you to come back and she'll tell him off - I'd make an exception if she does and go back so that he knows you know she wears the trousers! ;D
It's a game of three halves!

Does this go for everyone from now on or just certain people?
