I run a merlin with the help of a mains booster pump with produces a 010ppm reading(from 375 ppm tap water), then i run this through a DI bottle into my IBC tank.Apart from helping protect the filter membranes in the merlin, what other benefits are there? thanks for any thoughts

thanks stuart, merlin wanted £600 for a softener! but as the two main filters last 18 months i will give the softner a miss.

I've found the tds out put from my RO better with a softener. You can pick them up cheaper than 600 but you also have the running costs of them as well.
