ammonia smell?
« on: March 06, 2008, 07:35:32 am »
cust said at end of job that she smelt ammonia? I said no my dear it should smell like lavender (added from craftex range of deodourizers)
It was a wool carpet, so used microsplitters then fibre fresh rinse, smelt alright to me, but there was a slight odour of 'chemical'.
Does microsplitter have some wierd stench to it?

Cheers

Hi Guys

'Microsplitter' if sodium tripolyphosphate, Pureclean, One Step. No.1 etc will not contain anything which could break down into ammonia.

However some carpet contaminants can and dog urine is certainly one of them.

Smell should go pretty quickly.

Cheers

Could be from the 5yrs old, they not only spill things every where, but have little accidents, from birth to now.  Could be something from ages ago, from he little one, and it has been activated with the clean. Pure speculation though as I dont know.

Guys the smwll is from the wool its self when wetted. Its the Kerratin in the wool that smells and some times it is quite strong. It dissapears once fully dry. Always pre warn your customers of this when cleaning wool so they are ready for it if it smells.

It can range from a light musty smell to a strong like cat pee small.
