From time to time I see posts from folk, new to our industry, who have read lots of theory on the window cleaning forums, but are having problems getting up and running when it comes to the practical side of things.
You know the type of thing . . .
Dear Cleanitup,
I've just found your excellent site, I'm totally hacked off in my dead-end job and want to give window cleaning a go. I've done my own windows and have been practising on friends and family before getting out on the streets for real, but I have a few questions for you . . . When I tie the scrim in a bandana to keep the hair out of my eyes, which knot is best - and does this stuff have other uses? Does any one else find that half a container of Fairy per bucket produces too much suds, and should I be concerned that the dried-out skin on my hands cracks just as soon as I take the top off the container these days? I've just started and want to know how long it takes to get below the three-day barrier for a two-bed semi, and should I be embarrassed charging £2.50? Apart from not biting my nails, what's the best method of getting birdstuff off glass? If I have one of these jobs just before my lunchbreak, the chips taste funny - is there any connection?
Yours,
Worried, from a hospital bed.
In most cases, what's needed is just going out with an established window cleaner to see what they do, asking them questions about what they're doing themselves, and having a "pro" check over their technique.
We're all very good at offering advice on the boards, but would anyone be willing to mentor a newbie for an afternoon - or less? If so, put your name, and the area you work in, forward on this thread to let any newbies out there know you're available to help.
Thanks in advance if you can assist, and if you do reply to this thread, please put your town/area in the subject line.
